Does anyone have their horses insured with Scottish Equestrian? Just wanted to find out what they are like to deal with and on paying out. Have been with E & L for years, never had any probs with claims being paid, one of my horses is still with them but want to look at insuring my other mare with someone else mainly due to the 17.5% excess on the E & L policies rather than a fixed excess. Have got quotes from loads and Scottish Equestrian are coming up competitive (not as cheap as E & L and their sister companies but as i said i want to stay clear).

Thanks :-)

I'm currently with Scottish Equestrian and have an ongoing claim with them for lami. They've been good at paying out. They insist on every claim form put in been signed by the vet (even for the remedial shoeing) but not had a problem with them. Just renewed and now have exclusion of lami EMS and cushings but thats pretty standard with most after a lami claim.

i am with them via a broker (Julie Andrews Insurance ) they have always been easy to deal with and were brilliant paying up on an injury claim for my daughters pony two years ago , never any hassle.

We've used them for our horses since 2002, in that time we've had 3 PTS and I don't know how many injury claims! They've always been very good, the only issue we've ever had was when Dylan was PTS they initially wouldn't pay out because there hadn't been a post mortem. Our vet sent them a letter pointing out that as the horse had an open hindleg fracture he didn't feel a post mortem was necessary, and they paid out fine after that.

They paid out for me on a large claim in the last couple of years with no problems at all. I insured my new horse with them as they do seem to the best price wise.

I've said it on other threads and I'll say it here - make sure you read the terms and conditions!

Generally if a company doesn't pay out or quibbles over a payout it's because the terms and conditions have been breach/haven't been met. Make sure you are fully happy with them first!

They were bought out by PetPlan a few years ago however continue to keep their name. I have had several claims with them and on the whole they have been very good. Read the T & C's and follow the correct procedure if you are making a claim and on renewal each year.

Both petplan and seis are underwritten by Allianz. Policy terms are fairly similar but there are some differences.

This.

Have had three claims running.at the same time for one horse, don't ask he was special, and they paid out fine.

I like they have one.fixed excess

They paid out with no fuss for my claim in November, however I am having an ongoing battle with them to pay out for my gelding ( I did a thread on it) long story short trying to wiggle out as he is not vaccinated, however t & state that only applies if vaccination would have prevented the illness -shoulder lameness so no it wouldn't have - and then moved onto the fact that he hasn't been directly seen by a vet for over a year. So I'm on the fence with them just now.

Thanks everyone for your input, ive insured her with them and reading the T & C i cant see it being a problem as she is kept up to date with everything as she is a competition horse and no history of lameness/illness etc :)

I have just changed my insurance to SEIS.
When trying to be a good citizen i stated my horse had a cough in 2014 (2y previous), and a kick 6 months ago which the vet saw but required no treatment. They have decided to exclude the whole respiratory system, and that leg-on the provisions that if i can provide a letter from my vet they will 'review' them. If they don't remove them i will be cancelling. It sounds as though they are a bit OTT to me.....
