Scrap dealers eyeing up horses

Parents just had 2 men after scrap metal one of them was eyeing up my warmblood and asking about him

Ive gone on alert making sure everythings locked and shifted


They have a big dog as well who luckily nearly took the blokes nose off when he leaned over the gate, should I get in touch with horsewatch or am i being paranoid?
 
Id get in touch If I were you, its not going to do any harm to give a heads up to locals. Im just down the road from you and ill make sure everything is secure today and let others on the yard know.
 
It could be that they have a keen interest in horses and were being genuinly interested.
It never hurts to be careful thow.
Some travellers were eyeing up our new foal and i moved him as i did not know them. I was probably being overcautios as i live next to the drive to the site and they often take a genuine interest.

please email them, i had the same thing happen to me on sunday, il get the email that horsewatch passed around on my behalf and post it on here and see if it sounds similar!!

i had another email saying
Hello this is Barry the PCSO Support Officer, on the Worle Stronger,Safer,Neighbourhood Team,it relates to a previous message relating to a Mitsubishi, seen near to stables and asking about scrap metal, we now have a registration number for you to be aware of, it is H136XYB an Mitsubishi L300 Diesel SWB in Beige, which has again been seen near another Stable asking for Scrap metal.This seems unusual, but we are currently experiencing a lot of metal thefts, and this maybe linked. If seen please contact 0845 456 7000 and Please remember to ask that your call is tagged Neighbourhood Watch and quote Ringmaster message number JW883.
 
My mum had a 'scrap man' down our yard a couple of weeks ago having a good nose. She let the dogs out and they were gone pretty sharpish! In a white van too!! I don't like to stereotype but i think it's pretty obvious who they are.

Ring up the police - the advice line, not the emergency one!!

We had the scrap people around a year or so ago, and they were obviously being a little bit too interested in what else was around. As several people mentioned this to the police - with details of car/people/etc, I believe they were 'warned off' and left the area.

When I spoke to the police they had had a couple of recent break-ins on farms locally and were already on the case. They will be able to advise whether it fits into a bigger 'crime' picture locally so you will have some guidance on whether to worry!!

However, the fact your parents were in was probably the biggest deterent.
 
Not to say it's not worth keeping an eye out but I work with some ex-gypsies, who are now scrap metal dealers. They are the most honest hard working people I know, and they make more money than I could dream of, so buying a horse for several thousand pounds is like spare change to them. They do buy and sell horses too, mainly "gyspy" type cobs but are genuiney interested in anything horsey.
I don't wish to discourage anyone from being extra careful but sometimes there are genuine reasons people take an interest in horses.
 
thanks all, sorry works been mental this afternoon so only just got back on.

I know I thought twice about posting it as didnt want to be pointing the finger, but theyve had cast iron stolen before so.....

Ill get details of vehicle off them and email horsewatch.
