I personally don't understand the uproar apart from filming it and putting the film on TV. We eat rabbits which can be pets or feral. So although you may not choose to eat it i fail to see how you can condem people doing it unless you are a vegetarian. If you eat meat then to be honest as long as it is killed humanely after a good life then I have no issue with it. I personally would not want to eat it, neither would I want to eat horse. But I could never condem people for breeding cats, dogs and horses for meat in the same way as cows, sheep and chickens are bred for meat.
Agree with bosworth, and I'm a vegetarian. Why is a feral cat any different from any other animal? I choose not to eat any meat, but if I did would rather it was something brought down humanely in the wild than a frozen economy chicken, as we all know what sort of life they've had ..
, I'm a veggie .Don't care what other people eat, often make my OH meat dishes, but choose not to eat it myself.Have they killed something and filmed it for entertainment or something, and what is it? I couldn't watch it but I'm glad Gordon Ramsey has let people see how animals end up in polythene in Tescos' via his TV series. I saw letters of horror in some papers from meat eaters complaining that it was shown, how hypocritical can you get?!
Can I just say, if something really upsets somebody like this has Pelly and he feels strongly enough to post about it,can't we respect his feelings a little, esecially now he has said he is such a big cat lover? I also respect you if it doesn't affect you at all, re the other posters, and of course you are entitled to post your opinions. Just it would be nice if we could see when somebody is upset to make an effort to register that with just a few words maybe? This forum, and maybe the world, would be much nicer if we are sorry somebody has been upset by something, even when we don't understand why. Thank you for reading.
I actually think it a very clever stunt; sensational enough to make the news and thought provoking enough to potentially encourage people to think differently about the origins of the meat they eat.
I haven't seen the photos or video so can't comment on those but I can not see anything morally wrong with eating a feral cat killed as part of a cull.
Condemning them purely because you are a cat lover is a little short sighted don't you think?
Well I adore cats but would rather read a report like this, where a feral animal has been killed as humanely as possible, than read about some evil bastard who'd kicked one to death for the fun of it.
I totally disagree there are ways of showing wrongs up and this is definitly not it but is typical of certain types of students who are so far up their own that they fail to understand making their point the wrong way loses the message.
"Oh arent we such clever students making our point by doing something distasteful to a large section of the population."
QR - how is this any different to any of the food programmes on tv showing people preparing and eating meat? Or to the photos a friend of mine posted on Facebook of their summer barbecue?
Pelly I can appreciate that you find this very offensive as a cat lover, but I cannot agree that these students are "scum of the earth". The cat was killed quickly and humanely and THAT is what counts IMHO
As has already been suggested, the people who I would classify as "scum of the earth" are the people who will kick an animal to death, or let an animal burn to death in an enclosed stable, or torture or maim an animal 'for a bit of a laugh'
QR. The only problem I have with this is the fact that its a feral cat - I'd worry about the risk of eating a possibly unwell animal. My own cat would be much better - plenty of marbling on the meat from all the biltong he gets fed

It seems that you have more of a problem with the group of people than with the 'stunt' itself. Would it be alright if it had been done by someone else? Actually I think that this was a very well thought out way to make their point - that we spend a large amount of money on our pets but think it is OK to spend as little as possible on the meat we eat - regardless of where it has come from or the conditions it was raised / killed in.
Im a cat lover- i have 4 of my own. BUT i see nothing wrong with this. The animal was killed humanely so whats wrong with eating it!?! Its no different to eating a cow, pig, sheep, horse, rabbit etc etc. In fact, its better than alot of them, at least the cat was fully grown and had had a life! I personally would not eat a cat but each to their own.
Fair enough to all comments, But, Will it Stop at "humanley" killed Feral cats Or, will it go to Pet Cats,,, ??????? HOW DO YOU KNOW THE skinny cat down the road ISNT a pet?
Facebook thought it bad enough to remiove the subject
That is very very bad taste. There are other ways of getting their points across but to kill one animal for the plight of another is ilogical and a contradiction.
What I don't understand is why they had to eat the cat at all. Surely campaigns where animals are not 'harmed in the making of' might be much more popular and therefore effective? Their point hasn't been made too well due to the fact that the RSPCA and animal welfare societies and even facebook have slammed them, the controversy of it all masks the point they're trying to make, in my opinion.

Whats the difference?
I havent looked at it, as am a veggie, but i dont see whats the difference between eating a pet cat or a feral cat? Just cause a cats cute and cuddley means its more right to life than a chicken
I got shot down for saying this on another forum about eating horse meat...
I think they have a valid point. I feel that the way many animals are reared, live and are slaughtered is revolting. No-one seems to care as long as they get their cheap chicken.
I am not a veggie, and I am an ex-chef. I actually eat very little meat, but when I do, I buy it from my local farm shop who I know have raised and bred all the meat they sell. I have seen the conditions they live in and I feel that justifies me eating it. I refuse to eat cheap meat, I feel it is an insult to the animal.
Of course the thought of eating a cat is repulsive, but in my opinion, it is just as repulsive to be a hypocrite about it.
There is no difference. Most animals have been hunted by various preditors since time began, its all part of the food chain, like it or not.
Personally i cant see a problem in ANY type of meat being consummed PROVIDED it was humanely reared and despatched, and not an endangered species of any form.
