Have you, or somebody you know, lost a white male staffy in the Scunthorpe area recently? If so, we have handed him to the rescue kennels in Scawby called Sangreat. Details as below:

Approximately at 5:00 p.m. tonight a white male staffy ran in front of our car on Moorwell Road, Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. We stopped, and as I opened the car door, he jumped in on my lap! There was nobody about, the dog did not have a collar on, he seemed fairly young, and had a lovely temperment. We knocked on a few doors to no avail.

We took him home and put a harness and lead on, and my OH walked the streets with him in the hope he would lead him home whilst I went to sort the horses out. Unfortunately the little guy was excited thinking 'he was going for a walk!' and didn't indicate where he lived. :(

OH rang the RSPCA - they said now we have put a collar on him, he is our responsibility! They gave us a number for the Councils Dog Warden, but no one answered, and was directed to ring the main Council who gave OH the phone number for Sangreat Rescue Kennels.

On the journey to the kennels, the little dog curled up and went to sleep on the passenger seat snoring his head off. The guy at the kennels said that they were inundated with dogs, and if no one claims him, he will be put down in 8 days! :(

He is such a lovely dog, I feel so bad for the little guy. If anybody knows or hears of someone that has lost a dog around the Scunthorpe area, please contact Sangreat Kennels http://www.yell.com/Sangreat+Kennels+Scawby-Kennels+_+Boarding-Brigg-DN209AA-4275689/index.html

I hope somebody claims him. I would have loved to have him (if he remained un-claimed), but I have two male staffies already, and my eldest staff can be funny with strange male dogs. xx

I hope someone claims him, I find it so depressing that some of these places have dogs PTS if unclaimed within that time frame. Nice to see how helpful the RSPCA were once again!!!!!!

Hope his owners are found, rescues are inundated with staffies bless them. The RSPCA aren't licensed to take stray dogs in, only the council can arrange for this, so that it's documented if his owners do make contact. I assume he didn't have a microchip?

Thank you Charlielicious, muchly appreciated! :)

I was shocked by this too Ladyt25 - call me naive, but I didn't realise this is what happened to unclaimed strays. I did know that strays were pts if they showed agressive behaviour, but this little guy was so friendly and adorable. When my Oh told me, my heart dropped!

competitiondiva - I'm not sure on the microchip situation - I did wonder about this. I imagine the kennels will check this? I tried to ring the vets to let them know about him in case the owners contact them, but no one answered. So going to give all the local vets a call tomorrow and make them aware. I really hope his owners claim him. xx

Not mine but a bump for you - my aunt in scawby has a dog groomer neighbour so will ask her to pass on the details to her, might helpl spread the word. Hope he is claimed, he sounds very sweet.

Yes unfortunately 'stray dogs' fall outside that of rescues, they go into the council's stray dog system (paid for out of our council tax) and are boarded at their kennels for 7 days, then if no owner is found and no rescue has room to take them on then they are put to sleep, it is devastating and horrible. But with rescue centres already at saturation point, there is no place else for these dogs to go to, rescues do what they can and some will have arrangements with individual kennels to help get them rehomed but these are local arrangements not a national situation.

Which is why I think mandatory microchipping needs to be brought in.

Had some fantastic news - I may have found his owner! YEY! :) :) :) Happy days!

Loving the power of facebook! My friend copied my status, and somebody saw it, who knew a girl who had a friend on their facebook, that had put a status on earlier today to say their white staffy had gone missing. I am praying it is her dog!

Mine are both microchipped, but I know I would be beside myself if either or both of them went missing. I would be concerned in case anything happened to them, but then tonights events got me thinking - what if somebody 'claimed' my dog - didn't hand him in, and kept him!! I will give myself nightmares! xx

Me too! My friend said she had passed on all of the info, and they had called the kennels but there was no answer, and were going to try this morning again. xx

oo fingers crossed, and well done on your internet search!!!!!
Ah thank you, I will be over the moon if it is their dog. xx

hi any news?
Not heard of anything today. Will message my friend and see if she knows. Will update as soon as I know anything xx

**UPDATE!**

My friend has messaged me back - great news, it was the owners of the dog and they have been reunited again thank god! It cost them £52 to get him released from the kennels, but they're just pleased to have him home safe and sound! A happy ending! YEY! xx :D

Massive Phew! So pleased he's going home as he sounds a lovely chap who just wanted a sleep somewhere safe after going AWOL :(

Thanks for the happy update, and well done for spreading the word for him! :)

I am so pleased it was a happy ending too - I felt such an immense guilt after hearing what the kennels said about pts after 8 days - I was mortified!

LOL Brownmare - you have a point there! Facebook actually spreading the word in a good light for once! Makes a nice change eh! ;)

I have asked my friend a few more details just to find his name etc... I am just so glad he is back where he belongs. It has certainly made me more vigilant to ensure mine do not go wandering from view! xx
