Scurfy coat - revealed after a clip - yuk?

Obviously not much help now, but I always try and bath the day before clipping, then when I clip I use hot water, vinegar & dettol.

Also regular grooming and good diet all help to keeping a scurf free horse

Yes, Bob the cob had his first ever clip (age 6) and his coat was amazing, it was like 3 separate coats combined. No wonder they can live in Canada without rugs!.I think we discovered whole new species of bugs unknown to science ,in Bobs coat. Then we made them extinct (so much for my green credentials):D:D

Body brush until your arms feel like they're about to drop off, then another hour more. No product is a substitute for a thorough brushing. :p
AAAh , but Bob the cob freeks out when I run the bodybrush through the curry comb. Ok,he is a bit"special"

A towelling tea-towel in a bucket of warm water with some surgical spirit in it for a thorough wiping down after clipping seems to remove the worst of the scurf from my horse. After that, he gets body brushed every day after he's worked as the scurf is easier to remove when he's warm, and then, my new secret weapon, one of those "dusting dog" shaggy pad things that are meant for dusting the house (don't usually bother with the house so decided to dust the horse with it instead!) keeps him looking reasonably scurf free.

Stinky is not too bad, but he has a lot of baths in summer as he is shown a lot. Farra - yep thick scurf which was quickly elimated by boiling water, handful of soda crystals and then hot towel. I then went over her again with a drop of pig oil in hot water and she looked wonderful - until she got back out and covered anything without a rug on in thick clay - luckily the oil helps it slip off as it dries.

I always bath the day before a clip. especially if its the first clip of the year, plenty of hot water and shampoo, then I stand on a milk crate(Iam a short arse!!) and scrub all over with a plastic curry comb especially on top of the bum. You will notice a major difference when you clip the next day, plus because the coat is free of grease and scurff it saves the clipper blades and you will get more clips out of a set.
When you have clipped him hot rag him and put surgical spirit in the water, he will come up a treat.
Good Luck
