I am in the process of bringing my otttb back into work following some time out with a very mild injury to his Sdft. He was never lame, very slight swelling and some heat. Scan seemed fine so turned him out in a small field as he is much happier out and is very sensible. All seemed fine so started to do some walk road work. 90% the time there is no heat afterwards but I noticed Sunday that there's was slight heat there. Cold hosed and clayed over night and it was fine this morning. Is this normal as I did go on a slightly more hilly route than it have before and The weather was quite warm? I don't use boots on his fronts.

Sorry for the essay!

I rehabbed one last summer, he had a 40% lesion and had 5 months box rest followed by about 6 months total field rest, after a clear scan he started walking last June, he sometimes was a little warm after exercise but as long as it went away by the next day we did not worry too much, usually giving him an easy day or two just to make sure, we used no boots as it was so hot last summer, he did all the work off grass 24/7. He has now started racing again, the leg is standing up well with no heat even after fast work or his two races to date, he is booted for fast work, air cooled ones, but not for general exercise, I think that giving him 2 months of walking before trotting helped, he did almost 4 months before cantering, take it as slowly as you can, it will be worth it.

Just to add he was unshod for the first 3 months of exercise, this helped reduce concussion, kept his feet in excellent shape and improved the feet that more than likely contributed to his original injury, they are now shod due to the work load but are still supporting his tendons with good heels and frogs.

Yes, I was planning to just do walk/road work for the next 6-8weeks and see how he goes. Just worry when I feel any heat! Was just looking for some reassurance! I'm
Sure I'm just being over cautious! Thankyou!
