Seabass to win the National according to Scientists

Just looking at the runners actually, and still have a soft spot for Treacle albeit he did very badly last year!

But my money will be on On His Own (all £5.00 each way). I will noe stand aside for more informed comments ...... :-)

Out of the last 4 years I have won the office syndicate twice :D we all pick a horse randomly out of a hat.

Really wish I had put money on the ones I picked out esp as I had Mon Momme at 100-1!!

So if I bet it would be on the one I got in the sweepstake as that seems to work! Not very scientific I know!

When people do this analysis, the horses often finish well, if not actually win. Someone I know who was from the USA and had never seen a horse race, sat down and studied all the runners and what their record was just in one of those pre-race articles in a newspaper. He saw that good jumping was essential. He picked the winner.

After considerable study of the subject I can tell you straight that there is no such thing as a certainty in racing and if you know anything at all about Quantum Mechanics - nothing very much at all. Bugg*r Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle - he never put his money on horses!!! Hahaha.

It's an acknowledge fact that the best racehorse the world has ever seen can be running a blinder until he realises your money is on him and all of a sudden ....... it all slips to one side!

You could compute every variable of jumping, galloping, keeness to race etc., etc., and you still won't be able to add in something for the bent trainer that gives the horse a bucket of water just before the off - or for that matter sticks in half a gallon of extra blood the night before!!! Not saying that any do of course....... walks off shuffling feet and whistling.......

I think the one major factor that they never took into account was the fact that a female jockey has never won the National! And I may sound a little biased here but I most certainly jope one doesn't doesn't win until Lucy Alexander get's a ride in the race to win it! Nina and Katie have had everything handed to them on a plate, Lucy has grafted her backside off for everything she is and everything she has. I remember seeing her as a 16yo on our gallops and thinking - Why the hell is she off of the lead rein let alone on a racehorse! But fair play to the lass she has worked and grilled herself to be just as good, if not better than the lads!

Lucy to be the first female to win!

I think you might be being a bit unfair re the silver spoon affect - yes Nina and Katie might get more opportunities (as did Claire B - have you read her book?) but at the end of the day one does have to be talanted in the harsh world of horse racing to have sustained success - having said that the only wins my son had was from 'mum's horse' but I only put him up when I thought him competant enough - 2 wins of the 5 the horse had, went to another jockey.........
