At the beginning of December, on recomendation from my local tack shop, I bought a pair of Sealskinz Ultra Grip gloves. I'm a freelance groom and I wanted gloves that were tough, hard-wearing and warm and I was told that Sealskinz had all of these qualities, plus (as the wrapper proclaims!) they are waterproof. First time I wore them, I rode in them....my hands were FREEZING - not just cold, my fingers actually HURT! Not only that, my daughter's mare, who is very strong, kept pulling the reins straight through my fingers - the "ultra grip" was a joke! Over the next few weeks, my hands froze. The "waterproof" bit was a yet another joke - when my hands weren't cold, they were soaked, just from hosepipe splashes. Finally, after a month, holes wore through on the base of both thumbs - and these were gloves which cost me a whopping £28! I complained to the manufacturers and they told me to return them, which I did. In the meantime, I Googled Sealskinz and all I can say is that I wished I'd read the online reviews before parting with my £28! Since then, a woman at our yard has also bought a pair of Sealskinz and she moaned to my daughter that her hands were cold. ANYWAY.......yesterday, replacement gloves arrived and I wore them in the afternoon and purposely washed my hands (whilst wearing the glove) under a hosepipe and I have to admit that my hands remained dry. However, I wore them this morning and my hands were so cold that I ended up taking them off and working withiout gloves - my hands were actually warmer with no gloves on at all!!!!! SOOOOO.......come on.......what's your opinion of this supposedly amazing item? I'd love to hear!
