SEARCH FOR A STAR (or not)

rule 9.1 say 1st or 2nd only may be quailifying horses.

so how can they break the rules and give ticket to horse who come 3rd ?

rules are rules after all.

There are 9 disapointed as they didn't give 2nd a ticket.

Are you sure second was not already qualified hence they passed qualification down as 3rd was deemed good enough standard. TBH you sound like you are being a bit naive, you are not going to win/qualify every time you compete so griping about the entry fee is silly...showing is at the end of the day not black & white.

If a judge feels that the horses put forward on any particular day are not good enough to qualify then that is his/her decision. Just as they can withhold rosettes even if there is only one animal in the class!

We all know that the level of competition at some shows is way higher than at others and I would assume that the show OP is referring to was one of these "others" ...

Just thought I'd better clarify SEIB is Racehorse to Riding horse (R2R) and not Retraining of racehorses (ROR), 2 totally different organisations but both working to the same goal. Just thought I'd put that in as a few of the posts on this particular thread seem to be about ex-racers, mine included tho I'm sure its the same across the board re quality and standards for all the different types and classes.

But Racehorse to Riding horse is an RoR series?
You have to be RoR member, not totally different organisation atall!

Doh - what I meant is ROR series culminates at Hickstead and the SEIB culminates at HOYS. May have explained it slightly better second time round :o

Thats how i qualified for HOYS with my 3rd place..

HORAY!!!! Someone else standing up for whats right. They did the same to me... absolute shambles of an event who will take your money, get your hopes up and change their rules to what suits them. NOTHING fair about it, don't waste your time, energy or money.

I have been fighting against SEIB and SFAS for 2 months now and they are nothing but mean spirited, dream breaking, money grabbers... Opportunity, my Armpit!

I take it you don't like the replies you're getting to your thread on the Comp board ... ;)

Perhaps your horse just wasn't good enough?
Have you considered that?

the SFAS is a contest to find a star of the future. Its not a consolation prize for those with horses/ponies not good enough to get to HOYS in the main classes

I've been in ordinary riding club show rings where the judge withheld rosettes because he felt the horses weren't suitable for it. I also saw a WH class, 15hh and over where there were numerous complaints from competitors that it "wasn't fair" that the judge put the jumps up to the maximum height allowed in the rules. Most times the heights are there to suit the not-so-talented competitors, but on this occasion, it was a qualifier for a local championship and therefore, as the judge correctly pointed out, this was the height that people would be faced with there.

As for the weather conditions in the ring. Well I was in a HUGE riding horse class in a not very big ring, so we were split up into two groups. Just before I was due to do my bit ( I wasn't in with any sort of a chance, we only entered for fun and to try to do a personal best show) it absolutely poured with rain. Thunder and lightning the lot. Everybody's grooms ran into the ring with waterproof sheets for the horses and coats for the riders. Unfortunately for me, I had hacked there completely alone so I had to sit on a very miserable, shivering horse for nearly an hour, in wringing wet clothes, right down to my knickers. Perhaps I should have come and posted here afterwards?

Approximatey 30 years ago I stewarded for a BSPS Shetland class, with an absolutley lovely judge (who was an eldery lady then). She looked at the ponies forward and sighed, saying "well whatever wins this class will be the best of a bad bunch". She told me that she was sorely tempted not to give the first rosette at all and did withold the ticket (I'm sorry but after all this time I can't remember what the class was a qualifier for). There is no point in quaifying animals that are "the best of a bad bunch", as they will do nothing at the next round. There are going to be other classes and anyone who has not managed to quaify needs to ask themselves some hard questions about themselves and their animal.

From what I can see its not the SFAS people getting competitors hopes up, its the competitors themselves. Someone posted the rules early on in the thread where it clearly stated the qualifying ticket would be with held at judges discretion, if the horses weren't of the required standard. So anyone thinking they'd qualify purely by placing 1st or 2nd can't have read the rules properly, how is that the organizers fault?

Hello everyone I would like to make you all aware that search for a star run by SEIB is not all its cracked up to be.

Let me tell you why, you pay you money and turn up at one of the five shows in the hope of getting a HOYS ticket after being placed first or second.

oh they have said if they want they will give one for 3rd as well. Not in rule book.

Well let me tell you even if you are placed first or second they still may not give you the ticket as the judges dont have to give it out its in there rules as they say to you. There are many things in there rules but they don't play by them at all.
They are more than happy to take your money and let you bring your horse along but as for giving you a ticket dont hold your breath they offer a prize but dont give it out so they then say your not good enough for HOYS oh yes all this after they have taken your money. Did i say they take your money with no intenstion of sticking to there own rules.

Last week 10 horses came forward for search for a star class 6 and they only gave out one HOYS tickets, and said to the rest not good enough so I say to you 9 others who paid entry fees and money to get to Badgeworth you have been take for a ride taking your entry fee under false pretences with no prize at the end.

SEIB the team that puts this together are no promoting the amateur as they say in all the paperwork. I would urgh you all to look at boycotting this event and also SEIB event for there poor handling of search for a star. Maybe look at getting a new insurance company too.

BE AWARE THAT RULES CAN BE BROKEN WHEN IT SUITS THE ONE's THAT RUN THE EVENT

please feel free to leave comments of you own feeling good or bad.
I did this a few years ago. I sold my cob before HOYS
I had a call one morning off a lady pretending to be a buyer. When I said it was sold she went on a rant about me selling my horse and making money because I’d qualified it. It had also qualified royal international that year so wasn’t like it was rubbish. She said she would stop me or anyone else riding it at HOYS and when I pointed out at that time that there was nothing in the rules to stop me, she said well I’ll make one up then
