Hi - Just after some advice. Do you think i would be wasting my time by entering the Search for a star RC horse on a true MW skewbald?? She is IDx TB but she is a true MW with good bone..... I am not going to enter the Coloured one as i have found judges tend to go for either the traditional or the wb type - we just don't seem to fit in anywhere!! What do you think? If you want to have a look at her she is on the following link: http://www.jnbphotography.co.uk/events/brccamp-mar07/helen-abbot/IMG_0148.JPG

I think!

Please honest opinions - i don't want to waste my time! I think she is lush but then i love her to bits cause she is mine!

looks really smart, i used to show colured horses to county level and i would definately ride her!! Anyway just do it, judges are getting more and more open to a good coloured horse, fianlly remembering perhaps that a good horse is never a bad colour!

I would take her in the coloured, I used to show my coloured and they didnt choose traditionals or wb over her, its whats best and their pref on the day, go for it. And I would say riding club show horse aswell, Although you can only do one if you qualify fofr hoys. Good lucks shes a nice mare. xx

It looks v nice to me. Dont know much about coloured classes but did some stewarding last year for someone i consider a good judge and he picked a coloured in the hunter class over all the others as it was just the best horse there so dive in and good luck

Do they do a coloured class? Just had a look at their website and couldn't find one.
I think he would do great in the hunter class. Last years winner was a IDxTB.

I know nothing about showing other than welshies and even that is very limited! But your horse is bloomin gorgeous! Good luck with whatever you end up doing!

Oh thanks all for your lovely comments! Maybe i could try the coloured class as well! I think she is lush but then she is my baby so i am bound to say that aren't i! Thanks tho you have given me lots of confidence to give it a go! x

They dont do a coloured class in search for a star. I show my coloured at county level and we win a lot and hes neither wb or a hairy. Infact hes a 15.2hh cob x american pacer!!! So not only small but of random breeding.

I'm doing the Riding Club Show horse in for search for a star this year with him, may be you should think about doing that class. You have to jump two small fences but I'm sure thats not a problem. Also its the experience of it all. Which venue are you looking at doing your qualifier?? I am doing it in Hand ec on 7th July.

You really ought to do SFAS with your horse - you could also do the hunters.

In coloured CHAPS and BSPA classes you should also do OK - they split them into native, traditional, cob, plaiteds etc, so as long as the horse is correct conformationally and goes well, you should be fine.

Ooh i'm hoping to do that class this year with my mare but at Towerlands

Have you done them before, what are they like?

I'll be going to the Hand too - hopefully see you there!! I think i was put off last year - some classes she won but others she was right down the line up and she was such a good girl i just couldn't understand it. you know what it's like it puts you off sometimes. I was thinking about WH this year as well - think i might go for it!

me - again. I get confused with the hunters - which one would you put her in. When i watched the Hunters at hoys last year i couldn't see where she fitted in really. She is only 16HH - with shoes - she is 15.3 on her passport. I assume she would go in the mw - i am being dumb?

is that a showing 16hh or a guestimate. if you can measure her down to 15.2 she can go in the small hunters. in the weight classes she will look pretty small.

I don't think she would get away with 15.2 - i would def say bigger than that. This is where i get confused - she looks too big for the small and to small for all the others!!

If you get her measured properly with a height certificate, then at least you would know. She does look quite big for 15.2 (unless you are absolutely tiny), but it is impossible to tell until you get a stick on them!

Thanks for the advice. TBH i really don't think there is anyway she would measure 15.2. I am 5'7" so not that small - and i have long legs!

You chestnut looks very smart - beautiful!

Thanks! Your horse, in that case, wouldn't ever measure at 15.2. She looks to have quite a big front, and the middle and back bits need to catch up. She would look better with the saddle slightly further back, but generally, it would be good to see some other pics of her standing. She needs to look more like a show horse to do well in the riding club show horse class at SFAS - not necessarily carrying lots more weight, but certainly a little more behind the saddle.

She is a good looking horse and I think you should be able to do well in both coloured and SFAS classes!

I agree - i have been batteling with stomach ulcers with her for the past 7 months - only just coming out the other side. She is just starting to put weight on. This is the best she has looked since i bought her. Feels like she is finally growing into her legs!!

This in one of her standing - taken the same time as the other one. Didn't know he was taking pictures!

Most coloured classes you compete against all coloured types, so for example a BSPA qualifier I did last month I was against hairies, plaiteds and vanner type horses. But you just have to turn your horse out as best to their type. Your horse will be a plaited obviously so to make him/her stand out your plaits must be perfect and the right size etc, your trimming/clipping must be flawless and obviously your horse must be spotless. Therefore if it is between you and another well conformed horse your turn out will give you a better mark!

If you want any more advice on showing coloureds PM me and I'll help you out!!
