Searching for a pair of (wide calf) affordable boots?

I posted a thread earlier on asking if anyone recommended Mark Todd Milestone boots or K*TY Lake/Oracle country boots but haven't succeeded with a lot of replies, probably because nobody really knows about them.

I've been needing a new pair of boots for a while now. My little rubber jodhpur boots and synthetic chaps are almost for the bin and look really cheap (to be fair, they've lasted quite well, they just don't have the 'look' I'm aiming for).

I wanted to make a good impression on the new riding school I'm attending but I couldn't wait any longer. The boots will be for Christmas and I don't mind paying £50-£60 for a pair as long as they're sturdy, comfortable and have wide calf sizes available.

Do you have any boots that you highly recommend? Preferably ones that are good for jumping in? And also, do you have any boots you would not recommend at all, ones that are a complete waste of money?

I have a pair of Brogini wide calf synthetic boots. They look good and work well as a riding boot but aren't that comfy to walk any distance. The price certainly didn't break the bank.

I had these, they only just fitted my 18.5inch calves but were pretty comfy and nice to ride in, I sold them on eBay and bought some Dubarry's not sure they fall into the 'good for jumping' or 'affordable' range but I wish I had bought these first, I would have saved a fortune in trying every other pair first as they were to expensive!

Thank you, I've added the Toggi Calgary Boots to my options. I struggled to find a pair of Brogini boots online so I'll leave that off for now. Thanks. Any more suggestions?
 
I have some Toggi Calgarys still sat in the box - bought online and clearly for shorter people so the calf bulge on the boot is below mine... So if you're over 5'8 go and try some on in a shop. (PS They state regular length on the box)
 
I couldn't find boots to fit my fat calves, a shop assistant in robbinsons told me that I'd have to try fuller fillies (as obviously my legs are so grossly obese they disgusted her slightly...) anyway not budget by any means but I got a pair of wide leg ariat bromonts, fit like a glove and the comfiest boots I've owned, riding or otherwise!

Also remembered some if the mountain horse ones fit, they're cheaper than the bromonts, but can't remember how much cheaper, but may be worth a look :)
 
I had huge problems finding brown wide enough calf field boots (not a fan of big elastic panels on the sides or the FFillies ones) and ended up with Horka Anna boots. They seem good quality, comfy and cost £115 delivered. Only complaint is the lining isn't breathable so they get a bit sweaty! I am a size 14 so not huge but have muscly calves and none of the usuals like Ariat, Mark Todd etc go quite wide enough by a cm or two. I plan on getting Sarm Hippiques extra wide one day as show boots as they do a good size range unlike other premium boots like De Niros etc.
 
Thanks guys for the feedback. I was thinking of going for the Toggi Calgary's but still debating with myself... I really don't want to make the mistake of buying another pair of boots for them to lie in the cupboard unused and wasted because they don't fit... :(
It's tough because I don't have any nearby tack shops really but if I happen to find any I'll go and try on different brands and see how they fit; the only long boots I've had is pull on Dublin's and Shire's (the rubber ones that you just pull on/off) and to be fair my Dublin's lasted pretty well since all I did was muck around in them and ride constantly in them for nearly 1 1/2 years but with the Shire's I couldn't get my heel down because my heel just slid about at the back, which annoyed and also worried me. Now they lie in the cupboard for emergency-boot-backup.
I don't know whether I'd like the country type boots or the field boots. Hmmmmm.... I have a while to decide anyway..
 
For riding it would be a good idea to avoid the country style boots. They give very little support around the ankle, which is essential to ride in. If you are riding at a school you may find they do not allow you to ride in them.

The Mark Todd stuff tends to come up a little slimmer than expected - though I haven't tried these particular boots.

I understand the shires riding boots come up relatively wide, though they seem to be designed for shorter legs.
 
My daughter and I like Mountain Horse high riders. They do them in wide and short. If new are too expensive, you can buy them second hand quite often on ebay.
 
I wouldn't like to ride in country boots! They seem a bit sloppy; my friend had some and we were hacking and I mentioned how good her heels were and she said it was just the boots dropping down! I'd hate them not being snug to my foot/ankle!

Sorry just seen my suggestion of Horka's was way over budget but would definitely recommend them for the price. It is really hard to get decent ones in wide calf at a price under £100.
 
I dont have any suggestions I'm afraid (I'm currently in the same position as you, looking for new boots that wont break the bank!) but I would avoid the Toggi Calgary boots if you have wide calves. I had a pair, took me an eternity to break them in to the point where the zip would go all the way up my calf, I'm a size 12-14 and have muscular calves but they are not vastly wide, yet even on me these boots wouldnt zip all the way to the top for ages.

Took months to get them to zip up all the way to the top, then sometimes when riding the zip would come down and I'd feel the boot flapping around - not good! Then eventually the zip broke so that was the end of them - I wouldnt buy another pair, they were comfortable but they are too slim fitting for my legs and the zip coming down mid-ride was very annoying!

Not had these before but they look good, and do a wide fitting (avoid Derby House though, try and find somewhere else that sells them unless you are willing to wait 3 months for them to arrive)

These look smart, good value and do different leg lengths as well as widths so could be good if you have shorter legs?

I have Sherwood Forest Dalton boots with a wide calf, they're a few years old now and look a bit tatty but they're still warm and waterproof which is the main thing. I think they were about £70 or so. My calves are about 17"-17.5" and I'm 5'8".

ETA - I have ridden in them, walked in them and jumped around in ankle-deep Scottish mud at an outdoor gig in them!
