A Clydesdale X Thoroughbred Mare (born in Ireland). Was known as Kate and spent the last traceable years at a riding school in Warlingham, Surrey (probably sold from there around 1996?).
Would have been a kind gentle natured mare who would have been a nifty jumper. However the big clue is she was a featured horse in a book called "A Hack in the Borders".
Now somebody has got to know where she is if so please let me know, fingers & legs crossed
