my 21yo mare sometimes suffers with a cough/ copd in winter if my hay isnt perfect but she has developed a nasty cough & respiratory distress recently this summer due to pollen allergy? . she is on steroid & ventapulmin & have now stabled her to avoid pollens in field on vet advice. an inhaler was mentioned so i was wondering how anyone else has got on with using this? what make inhaler did you buy & where did you buy it? did it help ? any advice welcome Thank you :)

I had a steroid inhaler as well as ventolin for my chap some years ago now. The vet prescribed it for him and I bought it from the chemist, which was far less expensive than getting direct from the vet. I used half a spacer over one nostril and gently blocked the other one and when he breathed in I squirted the stuff up his nose. He was slightly offended by it to start with but very soon got used to it. He had his twice a day. It and adjusting his management meant that he hasn't had any medication now for years and works very successfully without any trouble. The type of inhaler would depend on the need of the individual and only your vet can tell you that. It's very simple really. Good luck with it.

Started on two inhalers + increased the dose of ventipulmin & she has started to improve. surprisingly she has accepted the inhaler with no problems at all, cant wait to get back riding her again soon. Thank you for your comments :)
