I've just moved into a new place and agreed to take on the jack russell that the person ( a friend) who lived there before me owns. I noticed she was bleeding and the owner said she was just coming out of season. This was 2 weeks ago and she is still bleeding although it doesnt seem to be as much. How long are they in season for?

okay thanks

not really too worried... just interested as i dont know much about dogs .. never had one before lol

She may become quite rampant as soon as the bleeding stops as that is when her fertile period becomes very imminent, don't let her wander as she will try and find herself a man. Should last another up to 2 weeks. Keep an eye on, what I would like to call her 'little mary' as the moment it is probably quite swollen and hard, this will soften and go back to normal size when she has finished her season. Good luck, the last thing you want is puppies.

It is not only the boys who go hunting!!!

Maybe I've been lucky but I currently have my fifth, sixth and seventh bitch and this far, they've all been ladies that never has tried to go out and hunt down a male dog. Interested and getting a little extra "Yoohoo look at cute me" attitude in their gait if we see another dog (just in case it might be a male dog) when we're out on a walk but they're still expecting that the other dog must come to them.

It is a big responsibility to have them intact but this far I've had no problems with protecting their rumps when out walking and meeting a loose male dog.
