A few weeks back my "darling" ID Spooked and tanked in the arena and I hit the deck with an allmighty clatter. Air jacket was on yet I still ended in A&E and unable to walk for a week.

Fast forward to this week, monster face has been out at grass and having a lovely "holiday" while I recover. Still being quite sore, but knowing that he must be ridden for both mine and his sake Ive been doing some real intensive walk work ( dont laugh! :p as any interesting and complicated maneuvers, transitions, softness, halting etc as one can manage in walk).

Today he was as high as a kite, but hey we are only walking! Que bird to fly out of the bush, and WHAM - history began to repeat itself. Down to every last move.

The shoulder dip to the left, the giant leap to the right, the tanking of bouncing down the arena as I do all in my might to a)stop him, b)stay on, c) hope it wont hurt so bad this time when i meet the floor.

Then it dawned on me, I was stuck. Stuck on the saddle. I sat deep, pulled him up and out of the "manic moment" and he stopped. :D:D:D:D

I feel so happy, in the past a horse spooking had never gotten me off, but his are something else! However his spooks are nonsense, and it was annoying me that he was getting me off, so maybe learning it as a way to do so. Where as now... he didn't :D

Anyway...

I sung myself a wee song on the way home while I was beaming about "sticking"
( to the tune of time warp ;) )

It's astounding, summer is nearing
Madness takes its toll
He’s schooling nicely, not for very much longer
I've got to keep control

It's a shoulder ditch to the left
And then a spook to the right
With your hands in his mane
Sit deep and hold on tight
But it's the broncing bounces, that really drives me insane,
He’s gonna ditch me again!

:p

Acavallo gel out seat saver, highly recommended!

( i have nothing to do with the company :p just pics make threads more interesting :p)

Great story! Am very encouraged as I bought myself one but wasnt using it when I last came off so shall be more responsible in future. So glad to hear they work - they are very comfy.

And love the pic too, very clever!

I have one of these too and wouldn't be without it, not only for ts grip but is just so comfy. They are about £50

Good song

I bought one of these about 3 weeks ago and my horse has had two sessions where she spooked numerous times and I felt so secure in my gel out seat saver. I love it. We are training her to hack out alone so lots of walk hacking ATM and the seat saver has made a huge difference to my seat bones but also I have chronic lung/rib pain and I've noticed less concussive pain when I ride. Very tempted to buy another for my dressage saddle. Worth every penny.

hehe, glad you liked my daft song, had me laughing all the way home, the other drivers must have though id lost it :o:p

Love the song :D
Wow that looks fab...how much are those...???? X
£50
I think you have concussion:eek:
or knocked some sense into me... one of the two :p

Definitely need one of these! Which sort have you got - standard (top pic in your post) or cushion ride (bottom pic?)

They are both the same i think, the "gel out seat saver"

Got it from there, super fast delivery too :p

Saw one of these advertised on FB, looks really good, might get one for when I finally grow a pair and get back on my youngster.

He is of the "trot trot trot nicely... lifeissoexcitingimustrandomlyexplodein4directionsatoncefornoreasonatall" school of thought.

:D:D:D:D:D:D lmao! It will be perfect! then you too can get the " oh wow, im still on!" feeling :p

Wow, never heard of these before. THink I might get one as was the victim of an over dramatic spook a little while ago and did feel at the time that if I could have kept my balance I may have been able to pull him up.....Love the song and the pics:D

These look interesting. Does anybody jump in them? What are they like?

I ofc cant answer that yet, however even trying to adjust yourself in the saddle is sticky. Your jodhpurs get left behind :p but i can live with that for the stickability!

First time i used it i couldnt get off! took feet out, swung leg over.. and noting! was stuck there :p
This time i put some oopmh into it, and was fine.

So I guess if your coming up for your jumping position, as long as your jodhs fit well will be fine :p

I'm also unable to walk (I'm now on my second week- wrecked my ankle ligaments) after my darling mare dropped her shoulder into a jump. I invested in one of these yesterday and can't wait for it to arrive (and for me not to be crippled :( )

What is the difference between the 'in' and 'out' seat saver?

Does it really make you feel safer? I might get one of these if they do :D

Really does for me. :) you kinda feel like you have sank into a big sticky gel cushion. That the only way to get off it is to stand right up straight. if you try to slide left right forward or back.. you just cant :p

I must have one of these.

D'you think they will work on a bouncy-bouncy-sideways-buck-oh-my-god-thats-a-pheasant-in-the-grass-spook?:D
:D
So far I've tested on a theatrical sparrow spook, yet to try the more dramatic pheasant approach :p

Interesting - wonder if they would help you stay in the right position for schooling too? I tend to have a twist in my hips and one leg off one leg on, kind of thing. If I could sit square and straight, wonder if it would help maintain that? Ofc, if you sit asymmetrically, it'll prob maintain that too !!

Loving the idea of moving but your jods stay put - lol.

I'm wondering whether they might work as a schooling aid when combined with saggy jods... throw yourself too far forward when jumping and hey presto, Lady Godiva moment!

Thanks for the recommendation, my horse has a very dangerous 180 degree spin in him and keeps throwing my sharer off at the moment, even though she is a very competent rider they are almost impossible to sit to, maybe this could help!

Silly question maybe, but are they dressage legal?

I love these!

Have saved me many a time from spending out on another cannister!!!

Bought mine from The Shop at Keysoe.

Excellent value am sure it was £45 no more.

Won't ride without!

Like anything now, no point two clipper onner and no acavallo no me riding thanks!!!

I knew before I even read this that you had one of these. I was talked by my friend into buying one at Windsor and it's been brilliant. My pony isn't very spooky, but we do have some extreme hacking round here (steep hills and rocky terrain) and I feel like Mary King riding in this. I'm considering buying the pad that goes underneath, too, then we'll be bouncy bouncy all over. I find it really helps with sitting trot and canter, too. Definitely worth the money and that's coming from a Northerner!!

Tested this the other day. A couple of days after moving yards I rode up a lane with some sheep grazing on one side. It's been years since he saw sheep and so he was eyeballing them and on his toes. So much so that when we moved into a passing place for a car he didn't see the pheasant on the other side and shot across the lane (all 6 feet of it) when it flew out. Thankfully this is quite rare for him, but good to know it works!!
