I have suddenly developed a really painful 'bum'!!

I have been doing a lot more riding than for a long while and I think it is that that has really hurt my seat bones! My saddle is really comfortable in itself (and Hugo is a very comfy ride) but I have a really 'bony' rear end and I think I have just bruised the bones!

Do you think a seat saver would help? I have read very good reports about the Heather Moffett ones.

Any opinions?

I have a Heather Moffat seat saver and really love it. Not sure what all "the purists" think but I am just a Happy Hacker and go out for hours at a time!

I have a lovely griffin nuMed one which is very comfy , don't get too reliant on it though as it's got to come off if you compete and then you just slide around!!

I have a back injury, and have just started using the H.M. seat saver, and it's fantastic :). Can't recommend them enough tbh.

But I was lucky - got two for £10 at a tack sale ;)

i have a really nice sheepskin seat saver and i love it! not so nice if it suddenly starts raining when you're out hacking as the sheepskin gets all wet but i ride in it and compete in it all the time! i do sj and it doesn't get in the way or anything + they come in funky colours! i have a red one and a purple on for everyday and a cream one for competitions. my m8 has a baby blue one and a brown one. :D

Shan't be doing that, Paddy! Just a Happy Hacker, me! As I get more confident and have longer (hot?) summer days available, I hope to be in the saddle more and more, so it sounds like it will be a good idea!

Thanks all! ;)

You suffer from exactly the same problem as one of the ladies on our livery yard, she has no meat on her bottom (more mature rider though) and despite using a very comfortable saddle and underwear she still suffers, she uses a sheepskin seat saver and it's really helped, you can even buy the cheaper ones and if you are any good with a needle and thread you can pad them up even more.

I have tried every seat saver on the market, including the heather moffett. I found the best ones by far, are the merino sheepskin ones. I too have quite a bony bum and even developed blisters when I did a lot of riding. The Heather moffett seat saver is great on some saddles but can be uncomfortable in front when put on others.

Hmmm, think there was another thread on this a while ago. Seem to remember that some people said to watch out for a bulky/overstitched centre seam in some of the "seat savers" as this can be, ehm, a tad uncomfortable to the "lady bits"!!! Need one say more, but deffo something to watch out for.

I'm using an ordinary plain sheepskin at the mo; have been using it all through the winter and it still comes up OK even after a good soaking in a rainstorm.

Have not tried the prolite ones.

I used to have a Roma seat saver and loved it. Came out a treat in the wash.
You can compete in a seat saver as long as it matches the colour of your tack (As closely as possible if you have a brown seatsaver and a different shade of brown saddle!!) as far as I am aware.
