Seaweed supplements

I have been given seaweed to try for my horses but i'm unsure to the pro's and cons as i've never used it before.What benefits are there to using this kind of supplement and risks if any.

Thanks I'm thinking maybe i won't bother,sounds a little alarming and wouldn't really think they would have an iodine deficiency,have always seemed healthy enough.
 
Seaweed has quite a high iodine content, and unless it's carefully measured out then you can cause an iodine toxicity.

Sadly, iodine toxicity and iodine deficiency have fairly similar symptoms... which makes the whole thing rather difficult! I would probably chuck the seaweed away

I was at a equestrian supplier today and apparently they sell alot of it but as the only answers so far have been negative then perhaps it is wiser to stear clear. thanks..
 
Definitely do not feed seeweed to breeding stock as it is a known cause of infertility and abortion in mares and can cause enlarged joints and contracted tendons in foals.
