Would seaweed be a good alternative to a vit and min supplement?
I currently feed my mare NAF General Purpose supplement but she doesnt like the sandy/ grainy texture of it so I'm looking for something else, others on the shortlist are DH Daily Vits and Mins, 365 complete. I'd love to feed her Pro balance+ with my other horse but theres no way she'll eat it. I've also tried her with Propell Plus but she wont eat that either :-(
I'm just going to look into EVENT the once a month liquid and see if that would be an option, unless any one has any other suggestions?

Thanks, the reason I give her the supplement, for her skin.

I do keep looking at balancers but they seem so much more expensive than what I'm using now. Will have to do some research into it

Does anyone know if seaweed meal (from progressive earth) is the same as normal seaweed?

I'm not an expert, but I thought you had to be careful with Iodene levels regarding seaweed?

Have you tried syringing the Propell Plus?

I don't feed it anymore because of the iodine content, messed around with my mare's thyroid and she lost a lot of weight, very quickly. Didn't realize until I some HHOers pointed it out and I took her off it. Saying that, I know of some horses who look lovely on it and is a cheap min/vit supp but there are better ones on the market IMO.

You do have to be careful with the iodine levels in seaweed. I feed 365 Complete and mine look amazing on it :) I mix it with Fast Fibre and Hi-Fi Molasses Free and they all love it :)

No never. It is out of controll. I have done a couple of analyzes on seaweed for to figure out what is trouth and what is fairy tale.

It will an can never replace a proper balancer. But it can be critical if not dangerous in some regards like iodine or even heavy metals like lead and others.

there is a reason that they use seaweed and different types of algae for to clean waste water.
It has the strong tendency to bind such elements.

So the organic beneficial idea is more or less a nice dream apart from the fact that a couple of grams of this can`t balance the amount from the rest of the diet.

UNless you don`t get an organic certified source you should think twice before you feed it. And if, check the content of Iodine.

Most of the seaweed you can get is a so called by catch of the fishing industry, now turned into a new business.

Thanks everyone, will avoid the seaweed.

Will try her again with the propell, and syringing if necessary (she's fine to worm so should be ok) will also try mixing the regular supplement with water first and see if that helps disguise it

Oh wow thanks for the info on seaweed. I was recommended to give seaweed and rosehip as supplement to help with feet as it promotes horn growth. Any ideas what would be better?

We cant see a hoofe problem as a insulated problem. It is more or less an overall heath problem caused by malnutrition.

The horse is not working in spare parts. Everything is connected to a "holistic circle".

Some things will show earlier, some later. You can read this article here, but you have to read it twice and critical.

It is never about feeding a hoofe supplement it is ever about feeding a balanced diet.

The better and less supplement promoting article is this here:
