Do such things even exist anymore?!

I have given in and admitted that new beast needs a decent dressage saddle, or more to the point I need to be anchored in so I can ride properly.

Can I still get second hand saddles from a saddler and fitted, or have they all decided just to sell brand new because you can get second hand cheap on Ebay?

How much should I be expecting to pay for a reasonable second hand one? For a 17hh-ish IDx, reasonably easy to fit so nothing strange or fiddly. Would probably be looking at Ideal or similar. Albion are nice but heard too many horror stories, and Black Country are ok too. I can't afford to break the bank and get something costing £1000s.....

Or alternatively....if even a second hand leather is going to be hideously expensive, do any of the companies who make synthetic saddles make any half decent dressage (synthetic) saddles?

So maybe the best route is to get saddler out to measure up, find out what would suit (size etc) then scour Ebay for it, and get saddler back out to fit once I've found it...

Do people rate synthetic dressage saddles? I've got a Wintec GP and not keen....

That's what I did.

Brought a Barnsby dressage saddle in the same tree and seat size as my Barnsby GP, then got saddler out to check/flock it. I was lucky and the flocking didn't even need to be adjusted.

I know a couple of people with Wintec Dressage Saddle (the Jessica ones) and they love them. I haven't ever tried them so can't comment, but did have a Bates (so same but in leather) Jessica Dressage saddle (also brought off ebay) and that was lovely, really held you.

Sorry to tag onto your post, but if anyone knows of a meduim wide dressge for sale could they drop me a PM.

Thanks

Thanks everyone

I need to look at my finances at the end of next month (once I've paid my vet bills and got some money out of the insurance co!) and will be looking seriously.

One more question, but about length of the saddle this time... I know it can be an issue if you have a short backed horse with a bigger/taller rider, as you can struggle to find a length that suits you both, but what about a small rider and big horse? The saddle that came with my lad, a GP, is 18in and is huge. It suits him but I can't ride in it as I float around. I really need a 16.5in and wondered if it's a problem going for something shorter on a big horse? He's currently in an old 17in Wintec I have which he is happy in, and it's a better size for me. It just looks a bit daft!

What do you do when you have a small, short rider and a big, quite long backed (he's 17.1hh and quite long with it) horse?

I have a Barnsby dressage saddle for sale. 17" med. Havana. Excellent saddle - just too wide for my horse or I would NEVER sell it! Only want £150.00 - BARGAIN!
