Hey all,

I need a saddle, and REALLY don't have the budget for a brand new one. So, where have people had good experiences of buying one second hand? Local freeads? Asking around at the local saddlers?

Cheers.

I bought a barely used Albion off Ebay for a very reasonable price.

My saddler told me exactly what to get, and then fitted it to my horse once it arrived.

saddles direct are great, i got some saddles from there a while ago and was amazed at their quality for their price!
plus the people are really nice too, the yard has a real buzz about it :)
goood luck!

I have only ever bought one brand new saddle - all my others have been second hand. Two that I have now were both second hand, one off Ebay the other from saddler. Both were fitted by my saddler once purchased. Best way to go, IMO unless I couldn't get what I wanted second hand...in which case I'd get something new and made to measure and spend a fortune!

You would definitely get a good deal on ebay, i'm never off it! The only thing about buying a saddle on ebay is that it might be difficult to judge if it would fit your horse by going on the description alone. If the saddle has been used a lot on the other horse, it might have moulded to that horses shape aswell. But if it's brand new or hasn't been used much, then it shouldn't be a problem!

I have bought my last two WH saddles off ebay and they have been lovely and under £300. I knew what size and width I wanted and you do take a bit of a chance. So far I have been lucky, both have fitted nicely, but my horses are not odd shapes or difficult to fit.

The only thing I do not do is buy unbranded saddles, I do like to know who made the saddle as I can then do some research on them before buying.

I bought a Saddle Company Saddle off ebay - they are adjustable so I then got the saddler who deals with them (there are a few all over the country) to come and fit it to my horse which cost £60. A really good way to do it and I love my saddle.
