Has anyone done this before. I have been so frustrated buying/selling items online - it can be so annoying to drive for half an hour only for the item to be unsuitable after all, or to order something off ebay and it be wrong and be stuck with a useless item.

Also how many people have tons of low priced items that they no longer use just sat about because it is too much trouble to sell them?

So I was thinking of opening a local shop selling second hand tack/rugs etc. Basically I wouldn't buy the items but take them in clean them up, display them and then sell them for a percentage of the amount.

Doing this would allow people looking for second hand stuff to browse a selection rather than travelling here and there and spending ££ in petrol.

I was also thinking about having a 'bit bank' where you can trial a bit for a couple of weeks (for a fee) to return it if it isn't suitable.

So does anyone have any experience of this? If you lived near me would you be interested?

I know of 2 places that have done this, some of the stuff was soo old that was taken in to be sold though. It was really hit and miss if they had what you wanted and people always wanted alot of money for 2nd hand stuff and not always just for the good quality stuff. But on the other hand you could find some gems if your willing to hunt through all the stuff. I know one shop that started up doing this and gradually managed to stock more and more newer items until they stopped doing 2nd hand alltogether.

Thanks Keltic - it's good to know it can be done :)

I would like to add at this point that I am not advertising - I'm not giving away my details or anything, just seeing if this is an idea people are interested in before I shell out greenbacks ;)

We used to have 2 near us, and very useful they were too, got some mega bargins.

The one closed as the lady running it retired, really miss it as she had the most wondrous collection of bits, all types and all sizes, all secondhand and very reasonably priced.

The other was run as part of a tack shop, took a commission on the selling price, they stopped doing it as problems arose when things went missing. or labels came adrift, I actually lost alot of money as things that I had put in to sell 'disappeared' but I never got my money for them:(
