I hope Cian O'Connor is one of the 'good guys'. I was watching HOYS on TV and I couldn't help but be won over by that smile and the touch of the blarney! I'm far too old for him, but maybe he'd like to learn a few things from an older woman
I personnally think the show jumping authorities are far too easy going when it comes to drugs. O'connor only recieved a 3 month ban from competitions when he was found guilty of doping and had his olympic gold taken away. What use is that? It should be far more like athletics where you get at least 2 years for failing. The last thing we want is for show jumping to get a reputation like cycling.
I think the major problem is actually the advance in drug testing in recent times. Even the tiniest traces are now showing up! Traces that have no effect on a horses' performance, ie it could have been a legal treatment and some is remaining in the horses' system.
They have to draw the line somewhere??
In the case of COC, his drugs were human drugs, not even for horses
The drug in Jessica's horses system is also a human drug not licensed for use in animals....its also not licensed for humans in the USA. Regarding how lax the authorities are ie Cian only getting a 3month ban...there's more! He didn't get any national ban at all and went on to win the Irish National Grand Prix league in 2005. Only in Ireland could someone be banned internationally and still win their National Title!!!! Madness!
The ones found in cians were ones known to be used in showjumpers for certain puproses. I am surprised given her outrage at his drug taking...not sure, we'll see how it plays
They may not be performance enhancers but they are Prohibited substances. Therefore they should not be found in horses. These showjumpers are professionals, they know the rules and should stick to them, or expect consequences! These substances are prohibited for a reason.
Just to clarify things - It was Jessica's "B" sample that was tested so it is not a "New" incident - it was drawn from the horse at the same time as the original test. When your horse is tested the vet takes 2 samples A & B. The "A" sample is sent away immediately for testing and the "B" sample is held for future testing at your request should there be a positive "A" test.
I really do believe that Jessica has been "set up" by people. I know her personally and honestly do not believe for a minute that she would do this - she is one of the few sj'ers who I would classify as being straight as a dice.
Toots
The B sample will almost always give the same result as the A. They are the same original sample, split in to 2. Unless the A is mishandled or contaminated during testing, it will be exactly the same as the A.
