So I went for another lesson this morning. After last week I have been doing homework. Reading lots (Sylvia loch's new book) watching DVDs and doing stretches and Pilates DVD (badly but getting better).

Today I rode his advanced horse and worked more in walk and a little trot, but working on forward and straight and correct contact. It was great he said it was like watching a different rider, which was so good to hear. It felt great too. At one point we went into a few passagey steps (accidentally I might add) but he was a lovely horse and I really started to feel what was happening underneath me!!

Hoping to do some lateral bits next time. I'm loving it so much. He has a schoolmaster that he is probably going to put up for share and I think I'd like to try it. I think I'll learn so much.

Loving it I really am

Wow, sounds fab. Did you do a video before going so that you could do a before and after, or are you just enjoying the process as it comes?

What a fantastic opportunity to learn for you. Sounds like you are benefiting hugely and yes...Pilates is great for riding. ;)

I didn't. I just asked hubby to come video a lesson once I'm a bit better. He said why not now? Good point I thought. I can feel the difference though. I've known my faults for a while and have been looking for someone who can explain to me how to correct them. "Get you leg back" doesn't help. "Place your foot better in the stirrup 'here' and let your leg relax here and here" equals leg relaxed and hanging down round the horse. It's seems so simple now but I have not found it in an instructor before. Mad isn't it.

A horse can't do much right without the right input from the rider. Most instructors I know lay the emphasis on how the horse is going. If instead, you get the rider right, the horse will follow without too much issue.

This instructor sounds like a keeper xxx
