How are we all doing? The sun has returned here after some grey and muggy/drizzly days. We've also had a few quite fresh feeling mornings which the dog has been loving!

Long Covid fatigue has been kicking my butt again; was off work all last week and just about made it through this week but finished early yesterday. It's probably the most significant setback I've had in a while and I'm not quite sure why. On the plus side it's made me appreciate how well things had been going and hopefully have responded quickly enough to stop it getting worse. OH has had lurgy this week which I think I've dodged but yeah... bit of a crummy week in our house!

Very, very nearly cancelled my lesson today as wasn't feeling well, but I felt so low I thought 'sod it' I'd at least get in the car (half thinking I'd need to turn around and come home).

Lesson at the newer RS this time (the one I have the hacking goal with) and I really noticed how the fatigue impacts on how nervous I am. It's a bigger, busier RS than the other one, lots going on in the school holidays. Not a bad thing at all, it seems incredibly well run, but just 'stuff' seems more over stimulating. A bit like when I couldn't do going to the supermarket when the brain fog was really at it's worst.

On the outside a 'boring' lesson but progress for me in getting to know this horse I hope to hack out with, working on pushing his walk on and bringing it back, had a go at leg yielding, and getting used to how he carries himself (I'm not used to a horse that will offer to work round - if that's the right term). I did need the instructor to walk round with me the whole time but that's what I needed today to make it work.

Now back to resting and hopefully I'll be doing better for my lesson at usual RS next week and be able to ride again. I loved my long reining lesson last week but would be nice to ride this time :)

The usual early visit to bring Lari in, in the morning followed by early morning weekly shopping and a stop for a coffee to refuel. Then its off to buy OH his next car as his has been scrapped.

Then we're at the feed merchants before shooting off to see Lari. Sunday morning open water swimming then hacking out in the afternoon before returning home to sort out our furniture as a friend is having most our ours, he'sdue to move next week.

Your lesson sounds fun SP. Hope you manage some quality rest over the weekend

Taking daughter's horse and the cob to a little local show tomorrow just so the horses get a bit more exposure out and about, a ridden showing class for her and an in hand class for cob.

Then on Sunday if it doesn't get ridiculously hot will be taking cob for a nice longer hack which we haven't had a huge amount of time to do lately!

Lesson this morning and then just hacking for me. We've been adding canters up the forest track lately without rodeoing which I've enjoyed and escorting the youngster out. When she goes out with horses she doesn't know she can't get a bit stressy and speedy but she let the young gelding spook and stop and come close ( he wanted to lick her tail) without even an ear back or a spook. She audibly sighed once *boys* 😅 and takes the lead. I'm not sure who has stolen my pony and replaced her but I might enough feel brave enough to go out by myself. I always feel bad about the rep mares get mine is very much a mare but she's such a nice person and so good with other horses.

Trailblazers. First time for me and for the hooligan and I knew it was going to be big but hadn't appreciated how big!

Because I'm a driveable distance I decided not to do Thursday's warm up classes and just take him yesterday. Talk about wired! Unfortunately that meant a very distracted test with some expensive spooks. Back today and I thought he'd be more settled / tired. I was wrong....

Announced us coming into the arena which he celebrated with a huge buck and explosive fart. I should have got him into canter there & then but the judge was quick with the bell. Unfortunately he decided a couple more bucks were needed down one long side and our fabulous, expressive trot across the diagonal was never going to save that score!

It's always nice to win frillies but for this i count success as surviving 😅 Looking at the scores we were never going to challenge the leaders who were up in the 70%+. I don't think even our best tests have done that well but it was a fabulous experience and I'd have a go at qualifying next year.

Good little egg for our lesson shoulder in really coming on. Canter I seem to get 2 good transitions and one bum on 🤔 but the canter itself is much more balanced and rideable.

I went to our local show for a look about and now I'm.looking at tweed jackets 😅 there was only two in the non Welsh M&M class and a best mane/tail class 😂

My knee is improving and I can ride Rigs for up to an hour in walk now, so...

Big H is coming home tomorrow! He's been ticked over by a friend at her yard while I've been too sore to ride.

I'm not sure how comfortable that will be as he is bigger and wider then Rigs, but he is pretty much a saint so it may be that BF rides him for a week while Rigs stretches my knee a bit more. Either way, I'm really looking forward to him being back! He is such a kind boy.

Off BD next weekend and then preparing for our first ODE at the end of the month. Very exciting! Hoping to gain some qualifying scores this time BD as last time we bucked twice in the test as for some reason, my usually most chilled boy decided it was all very exciting.

Well my plan for a nice chilled schooling session yesterday went flying (pun intended!) out the window as for the first time in two years, I got dumped by Baggs quite spectacularly!

He was retired but getting bored, so after check ups with all his health professionals he's slowly been brought back into work.

Walking down to the school was fine, getting on was fine and walking around was fine - then a massive horsefly bit the poor lad as I put my leg on - and I got promptly ejected, landing on a wooden pole, landing heavily on my left hand side, smashing my phone screen to pieces and getting a concussion. Poor Baggs then is in a right state with the horsefly having had him and is legging it around the arena that would give the racehorses a run for their money. I eventually catch him, get back on after checking him over, do a lap in walk each way and then called it a day.

Boy oh boy am I feeling it this morning!

That doesn't sound fun, AL. Very sorry that happened :-( Hope you're okay x

I have a newfound hatred for horseflies that is for sure!

I went and got checked out after my fall as my poor Mum saw the whole thing happen - I've got a mild concussion (had a banging migraine all day at work - and I work on a computer so not been helpful!), I feel quite drained in terms of energy, my bottom is rather sore, the left side of my lower back has gone into spasm this afternoon and is quite painful to move.....but I'm alive, in one piece and able to hug my lovely horses when I head to the yard later tonight which is what matters x

I'm even more thankful that I'm in one piece after the sad news about the poor lady who sadly lost her life competing over the weekend. It really hits home hard just how dangerous our sport is when things like this come to light.....😔

I'm trying to find a nice riding hat that won't break the bank, as it will inevitably need to be replaced in the next few years when I have my next fall (be it off Baggs or Rabbit once he's backed and ridden away)!

I was more concerned for poor Baggs as he had a massive lump on his chest where the horsefly got him, luckily it's gone down and he's still begging everyone for sweets and cuddles when they go past his stable, so I'm just thankful that my boyo is alright 🥹

My work colleagues think I'm mad but I don't give two hoots about myself when I hit the deck - my first and only concern is my horse - always has been and always will be. Mum was coming down the hill to the school as I was getting up from being deposited on the floor and she said she had never seen me get to my feet so fast in my life, even though it was obvious I was hurt, she said she could see that I only had one concern and that was Baggs, and it made her extremely proud that she has raised such a caring daughter. Of course me being in pain, worried about Baggs and then worried about her as she's not 100% herself health wise at the moment led to me having the most melodramatic crying festival which lasted for about 10 minutes straight 😬

The small upside is that I have a new phone and it was a doddle to set up - but the downside is that the phone that got smashed still has a good year and a half left on contract! But I need a phone for work so it was something I had to take a deep breath, sign the paperwork and promptly walk (well hobble slightly!) out the shop before I muttered a few choice words of my run of bad luck under my breath aha xx

I'll be taking it easy with a takeaway and glass of wine tonight and Baggs has the physio coming out to give him the once over before I clamber back aboard him x

Thank you for checking in and seeing if I'm alright xx

Well that didn’t go particularly the way it should have- 58.5 and 60.6%. I thought the tests lacked energy but weren’t that bad watching back, I would have guessed around 61 and 64% so a bit lower than I thought. We continue to try. Any ideas for rider weakness through one side of the body welcomed. I feel I am letting him down as I’m weak through my right side and don’t bend well and let my arm creep forward.
