Secret to a shiney coat...

So summer is apon us and For me there is nothing better than a horse with a gleaming, smooth shiney summer coat. So whats youre secret?? Is it a special grooming routine, something in their feed or just simple magic ?! I'm always so green eyed of people glistening round the arena even if their horse is trying to buck them off, at least they look good !
 
1) feed micro. linseed in a balanced diet, 2) sit back and admire!
I do flick ours off and give a full groom a couple of times a week because I enoy that time together, but even without (when they are turned away) they absolutly gleam on this!!
 
Since my WB has been fed Pure Feed his coat is amazing!

In the last couple of weeks i have also added a splash of soya oil and a splash of Cod liver oil.

He literally does look amazing! He is the example of what you referred to above, looks amazing but trying to buck off his rider at all times!
 
Mine looks like this just on sunshine, grass and ungroomed, he'd probably be quite shiny if he had a bath, some proper brushing and some grub.

What a fab coat! The colour is lovely. I think you'd be blinded if you bathed him if that's what he looks like normally :o
 
So linseed oil is a must. Well I shall post some pics in a few weeks of before and after the advice. Maybe I will be one of those people trying to be bucked off but looking fabulous while doing so at last :D

Linseed contains omegas 3 and 6 in the same ratio as spring/summer grass.

When they go out for the spring and suddenly get that 'bloom' to the coat - that's the omega oils.

So linseed has the same magic of Dr Green without the unpredictable sugar level.

(plus joint help, gut muculage and hoof moisture balance)

To get the most of the oils, then feeding micronised/raw is the most nutrient rich form.
 
Buy a black horse, mine seems to shine naturally even clipped! He's on spiller's lite balancer and I think that helps too.
 
Good diet and exercise but with a helping hand of Argo Vit-Min supplement (herbs and CLO) along with Lincoln Total Groom...and lots of elbow grease :D

:) Thankyou. That's completely normal for him, he is self cleaning, mud just slides off him :D He has a naturally very silky coat, with that metallic sheen, even his fluffy winter coat shines.
 
I find my horse is very shiney just by being a healthy boy BUT for that added gleam spritz some coat conditioner on and then get strapping with a cactus mitt! You use the cactus side first and then the soft fleece side afterwards to buff up. Most tack shops sell them, they are brilliant :).
 
Just grass & sunshine & regular grooming for mine. Ones grey so doesn't gleam the way the bay does, but still a shiny silvery colour.
 
Good grazing and... MUD!! I let my horses get mucky - after a good groom their coats come up so much better compared to those that have every spec of mud removed every single day!
 
Another Linseed fan here - all round wonder food. I don't groom much but everyone comments how shiny he and he had lovely dapples too.

I buy a big bag of micronised Linseed from Charnwood which lasts for ages.
 
Micronized Linseed, from how my friends mare has reacted to it. Her coat is now amazingly shiny!! Going to start B on it too xx
