I know it's a bit of a how long is a piece of string question but....

How much weight do you think my Section A could carry? She's approx 12hh, 15 years old. Would be for all activities.

She is currently out of work but I am advertising for a sharer/loaner for her so does the fact that she is unfit make a difference to the weight limit? I want to state the weight limit in advert to avoid any awkwardness at a later date!

I have got 7 stone in mind but maybe she could take more?

What a beautiful pony!

No idea on weight although our dolly is a chunkier 12.2 full up and we've been told she's easily carry 8 stone.

Wish you were near me, I know a little jockey who'd take your arm off for this sweetheart! X

Thanks Redmond, she is an ace little pony for the right rider, she LOVES to work which makes it so much sadder that she currently isn't!

Yes your Dolly is chunkier and stronger looking in general, would be interesting to get a few more opinions.

My two Sec A's are 11.2. My niece, who rides one of them, is 14 and must weigh about 8 stone. She jumps, hacks out and has done a bit of X/C. No problem at all for the pony, she can go all day long (so to speak).
I've also seen many small adults compete on Section A's in ridden M&M showing
classes.
I would advertise her with a 7 stone limit to be on the safe side but if you find a good little rider who maybe weighs a bit more I wouldn't dismiss them.
Good luck, she is a cracking little pony!

Well I'd ride her but not full time and I'm 8 stone. I ride a few that size but they are mainly for schooling not a nice ready to go type like she is. While she would cope with me, I'd be too top heavy and tall in the body to be happy riding her full time, the ones I ride are all temporary measures until they are ready for their smaller jockey again.

If that's of any help?

It is thanks! I need someone like you closer to me lol, she's been out of work for a year so could do with a small, older rider to get her going again!

Thanks everyone, sounds like I wasn't far off with my 7 stone limit, will be slightly flexible with it and see how we get on.

I've ridden a couple of 'A's in the past, when they haven't been behaving themselves for their little people. I would have been 7 1/2 stone max, but wouldn't ride for long at that weight. I don't think the weight was an issue although I did feel very tall (for once!) and not as balanced as usual.

Judging by the section a class I watched at Lincoln county show anything up to about 11 stone seems acceptable in the show ring. Of the 12 ponies in the ring only 2 had kids riding them and one of the kids was on the chunky side!

I saw that as well, from the back I thought one was a very smart looking boy, when he came up close , he was a fully grown man!!!!

I have had some one who is about 9 stone ride mine, and he was fine, but it was not for long.

I would have not let them take him a full days hunting :)

My very traditional sec a carries 9 stone no problem , my children's instructor insists he'd be fine carrying a little more for schooling purposes ( and to help him him fit in winter when harder for kids to ride).. But I'm happy to draw the line at 9 stone :)

I have been riding my welshie quite happily at 8.5 stone and have only just stopped due to being pregnant and being just over 9st! She would still quite happily carry my but I feel anything over 9 stone is abit much for as she is a bit slimmer build than some! Saying that I know full well ( like most others) if I was too heavy she would tell me!

My guess would be about 8 stone-ish for all activities, he looks like a fairly solid sort. (The brilliant and late writer Henry Blake reminisced fondly on hunting his 12hh welshies and I think he was considerable more than that.

I occasionally ride my kids 11hh section a and weigh about 7.5 stone. She still manages to take off with me!

I sometimes ride an 11.2hh Section A type, including jumping. I'm 7.5-8 stone and he carries me easily. He's not long broken and is going to be a lead rein/kids pony but obviously needs to learn with a 'bigger' (:p) rider first!
