SECTION D/COB/NATIVE BREED OWNERS... what do you feed?

Section D 7yo gelding on our yard, restricted grazing, in overnight on shavings with 4kg hay, 2 handfuls hifi lite, a calming herbal supplement, garlic & limestone.

14.1 NF and very chunky 13.1 NF, mare & gelding respectively, 8 & 7 yo, very restricted grazing (half what the D has and they share it, in at night on shavings, 2kg hay each, handful chaff, handful nuts.

None are gaining weight at the moment, but they look very "well" and are not losing weight either.

controlled grazing for my Haffie except she has started to escape so grazing muzzle it is. In at night out in day. At night she has 1 small scoop of Healthy Hooves (shes unshod) in morning ing, plus 3 slices of elderly hay without much feed value overnight.

Found Rara 2008's reply interesting...ours are American Quarter Horses which tend to be good doers and very laid back.

Quite difficult to get a balance when competing this type of horse hard over the summer (very much as with a sec D).
Ours get a scoop of Meadow Blend (low carb mix) twice a day, go on restricted t/o most days (there's one which gets like a bullock on any grass at all!) and really good haylage at night.

Any less, and like Rara's horses they'd prob lose conditon when competing....

My 16.3 highland x has:
1 handful good doer
1 small measure of lami-lite
1 1/5 Danilon
3 synequin
1 ragaid
1 small measure dynamic (until he finishes the bag)
2 carrots

He is strip grazed with 4 others.

He only has a handful of feed for his supplements.

He needs to loose 100 kg due to his arthritis.

In the winter he will have

13 kg soaked hay
2 handfuls good doer (am & pm)

Supplements pm

I know he is having less than 1.5% of his bodyweight, but I do not have a choice until he has lost all 100 kgs

Chancer - 4 year old gypsy cob. Worked for 30 - 45 mins schooling or one hour hack four times a week schooling/hacking. Currently living out 24 x 7.

Our grass is ok but not long or rich and by September I normally need to put out hay.

One stubbs scoop of simple systems greengold, 1/4 of nuts and small handful of unsoaked speedibeet twice a day with black sunflower seeds, salt, instant linseed, equilbra, brewers yeast and skratch supplements.

He is still growing and not inclined to pile on weight at the moment.

My coblet (on a permenant diet) is on very sparse grazing for the summer - enough to keep him ticking over but he has to actually walk around and find it. He has an apple a day because otherwise he thinks I am mean!!

In winter he is out in the day, stabled at night. He has 6kg of 24 hour soaked hay overnight, and 0.5kg unsoaked hay when he comes in at about 4pm to keep him busy until I get there just after 5pm. His feed is 100g of Happy Hoof, 8 equi-bites, a handful of carrots and 2tbsps of cod liver oil - he just has that in the evening (no breakfast).

His diet has all been worked out by a nurtitionist, and it shifted a lot of weight off him gradually over the winter without him ever going hungry

He hasn't really put on any weight since going out 24/7 for the summer.

ETA: He is ridden 5 or 6 days a week, for at least half an hour each time. If I ride him less the weight does start to creep on...

My 18 yearold connemara is actualy LOOSING too much weight at the moment.

He is out 20 hours a day on 4 acres with 3 other ponies, grazing is short but not sparse.
he comes in in the evening for about 4 hours and has adlib haylege.

he is fed twice a day.
morning feed he gets
1 scoop of allen and page cereal and sugar free (has a cereal intolerance)
1 scoop of unmollased sugar beet
and some chaff.

Evening feed he gets
2 scoops of allen and page cereal andsugar free mix (cereal intolerance again)
1 scoop of unmollassed sugar beet
cherry chaff with oils for show shine
big dolop of linseed oil,
1 scoop of shake relief.

he is hacked out at least one hour a day does quite a bit of fast work, he also does at least one show a week sometimes 2 shows. at each show he will do 2 or 3 ridden classes, if he has 2 shows in one weekend he will only do 2 classes per show

Dales pony - half rations on TopSpec Anti-lam in the spring/summer, switch to normal TopSpec in the winter. If she has any supplements for example magnesium for her feet/salt, she gets a tiny amount of speedibeet. Unlimited hay when stabled and on ok grazing the rest of the time.

Forgot to say - she had lamintis twice last year so I have to watch her weight, but on the TopSpec she has been fabby.

i feed my NF ex Lammi the Simple system feeds - Lucie nuts and some other i think is Speedi-beet.
I changed his diet as he was previously on Happy Hoof... his cota looked dull he had little energy (which is very unlike him). changed him over and he now looks fantastic and his weight has stabalised. Best thing i ever done.

old boy out 24/7 just gets topspec antilam half rations.

new boy in at night gets half rations standard topspec, 1.5kg of spillers slow release energy cubes, 1.5kg of alflafa cubes, 1.5kg of bog standard mix and 1kg of chaff spread into 3 feeds. he is a skinny thing who i'm sure should have been an Arab, not a welshy! he is still growing though and isn't on good grass, although that's about to change so hopefully will be able to feed him less!
