Could some kind soul please explain to me what makes a horse Section D?!?

I have been riding for 3 years now and have heard the term used on many occasions at various shows and about the yard but I havent a clue what they mean! and am far to embarrassed to ask!

is it certain breeds? or related to size? weight?

is the a section A, B, & C?!?!?

an explaination would be greatfully recieved! x

Its welsh breed sec A small pony B up to 12 2 I think sec c I think is up to 13.2 sec D is a cob with no height limit. I may be out on sizes but they are all welsh ponies

The Welsh breed is split into four different types,
Section a, or Welsh mountain pony
Section b,
Section c, Welsh cob type
Section d, or Welsh cob.
Hopefully someone who's more into welshes can provide a link with pics for you.
But don't ever feel embarrassed to ask people at shows or at your yard, any normal person knows everyone isn't born knowing everything!

If he doesnt settle, neighs lots, snorts when hacking and spooks its likely to be a welsh section D. However they turn their hooves to anything, can go like the clappers, and are very loyal once a bond is formed.

Oh and they do this...Alot

Best breed in the world.....but I am biased

My section D was awful!!! Lazy, stubbourn, would jump at home but always got me eliminated at the first jump at shows!! Neighed at pretty much everyone but me!!

Put me off of them for life!!!!

My welsh Ds are as mad as a box of frogs! They always throw something new in the mix of cheeky things to get up to but they are like digs to handle I'm sure they'd sit on my lap if I let them ! And it's true once a bond is formed its like no other bond!

I've currently got my first ever purebred sec D. He's 3 and he is absolutely hilarious, funniest personality ever. He's also very handsome!
I am now a convert :)

He looks mega fat next to the others though :D

Just to confuse there is, of course, also a Sec E...... But that is in brackets after the A,B,C or D and denotes a gelding.

Sound just like mine lol. I think they are like marmite, you love them or hate them. I adore every inch of our mob.. nutters that they are!

Section C in photos is Parvadean Lotta Bottle. Recognise D in both sets of photos but bugging me who they are

Think the first D is Llechryd Ap Jedd. Only because I recognise the handler :p

2nd one is Nebo Daniel (I cheated again and looked at the link name :o)

I love them, when working as a groom on a full livery yard we had one in and I loved riding her! I also had a sec C who was great fun although sadly too small so I had to sell her :(

I did NOT want a Welsh pony. I was set on a gypsy cob type.

I went to go and view a welsh pony, more for experience and I had a free weekend - wasn't too interested in buying. Within 10mins I fell in love with her and I am now the very proud owner of my girly and have never, ever looked back. Yes, she is very cheeky and yes she can be very stubborn and yes she can do my head in....but there is not one nasty bone in her. She gives kisses and nothing she does is out of malice. Shes a bouncy ride to say the least, but she is very eager to please and intelligent. I would deffinatley own another!

Oh,...another thing - A welsh can't be coloured or it isnt a true D! They come in black, chestnut/liver chestnut and grey....I think bay is a correct colour too. But Pibald/skewbald are not welsh colours.
