hi all

well my boy cannot keep shoes on for whatever reason - last one was 3 days before he got it off! We are dumbfounded as he has good feet and gets then clean off without twisting them etc! Bizarre.

So spoke to farrier today about Secure Shoe? Has any one used thenm - I see good reviews on here but am concearned about rubs if they get mud and grit behind it, farrier said that was his only concearns but otherwise good product and have worked on another big beastie who also pulls them off.

Please let me know your thoughts

not come across them - but my lad was the same when I first got him. His feet were good but he just couldn't keep shoes on.

My farrier had to take his toes back, get his heels to grow and to change the type of shoe he was using several times until we got the angle of the foot better and now I've had almost 2 years without a lost shoe.

IMO your best bet is to look at how your farrier is working, and ask experienced people to help you work out what's the next step.

haven't come across the secure shoe either but we have a big lad with similar trouble but have him hot shod and he goes for a short hack at a good trot straight after to shoeing (farriers advice :) ) where he goes at a good punchy trot and this seems to work and sets the shoes better :)

I assume you mean these: http://www.shoesecure.com/

I haven't actually used them but do know that some people swear by them. I suspect it might be a bit time consuming putting them on each time you turn out but perhaps I'm not the quickest at putting studs in. I do know that a huge amount of research was done during their development and I'm sure if you gave Muriel a phone she would be happy to discuss your concerns as she is passionate about this product.
