Hi, a few of us have 12x24 double field shelters at our yard. Recently, we had one take off in the wind and ended up totally trashed !! I’ve had mine staked down with 5 posts (three across the front and two on the back corners), which are concreted in and have three bolts on each. My next step is to put some sort of vents in the feather board at the back of each side of the shelter (as there’s a full partition in the middle).

i would appreciate any suggestion in terms of how much ventilation I should create Also, one side is used to store my hay, so ideally I don’t want rain getting in - is there some sort of mesh I could put over any new holes/vents that would help keep the rain out, but let the air through ?

thank you

You can get ‘louvre’ vents - the plastic strips hang at an angle downwards to stop water getting in, yet allows airflow. You normally can get louvre vents in plastic or galvanised metal.
They come in varying sizes.
Best to have smaller ones than massive ones, that would allow a lot of cold air through creating a draught. Also the bigger ones with bigger gaps could let blustery rain through, when the wind blows the rain in all directions.
Smaller ones allow air flow, while keeping it more rain-proof.
