Hi all

I am moving to a new yard and the people there do not keep there saddles at the yard as there was a break in. They have good locks and security but someone came during the day and took stuff.

Anyway I can't store stuff at home as I live in a flat and we don't have the storage space!! Any bright ideas for keeping tack secure? Some kind of lock?? There are saddle racks which are attached to the wall which I could use. Thanks

Thanks

use a reasonably thin chain and lock your saddle onto the rack through the D rings??? Leave your bridle in your car or hang it on your kitchen door like mine does when I take it home to clean it but never do!!!

You can either invest in a steel locking tack cabinet, but they are quite expensive. There are also wall mounted saddle racks that have a hinged bar that comes down across your saddle & padlocks into place securing the saddle on the rack. They are fairly cheap. You could get one of those & screw it to the wall?

I have a fab lock up for my tack. It cost me £20 off of ebay. It is an old garage forecourt lock up. I can fit just about everything of value in there.

Just bear in mind that all these ideas are very well but the average thief will take your stuff anyway...locked cabinets and safety chains are nothing to someone who knows what they are doing! The people that took my trailer cut through two heavy duty gate chains, a hitch lock of solid steel and a wheel clamp...all cut off like butter!
You may also want to check you are covered in the event of a theft with your insurance, because if the yard has had previous problems and everyone but you takes their stuff home...questions will be asked. Sorry to be neg but you know what ins companies are like! I hang my bridle on a door too and have my saddle over my bannister...I would rather have less space than have my stuff walk.
