Security- any ideas- bit worried at the minute!

I have a tiny yard, just my horses and their companion. Few wooden stables and open front storage. No where secure so I take tack home. The main gate has a padlock and chain.
The side of the field is against the hedge of two houses One of which cant really see in other than from their upstairs window the other can see right it easily. (single middle aged lady and she's not horsey)
Just recently ive had reason to believe all is not quite right. Nothing has gone missing and no harm to the horses but the people in the first house reported one of the horses going mad in the early hours last week. They called round but was dark and quiet by then. I thought nothing too much of it as there are horses behind us and I assumed it was them.
The following two nights pony box walked (or at least left a round track in his box so I assume box walked) never done anything like this before. Hes a funny little thing and will play with anything but his bed is usually clean and easy to do.
Then yesterday big horse who is very calm and quiet unless the hunt is round but proper hunting has now started so it was too early was absolutely wired when I arrived. He has lovely manners but I had real trouble rugging him, he wouldn't eat, he's absolutely trashed his stable and I had to turn him out in the little paddock I was saving for real winter because I literally couldn't lead him any further. Ive never known him like this- He was still unsettled at lunch time.
Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. I have no electric but will be installing a solar security light- what else can I do?
nb- All was peaceful this morning and at lunch time.
 
CCTV?

I have to say I would never keep a horse somewhere where there wasn't anyone on site. But I know people do without any problems.

I would feel very uneasy about it though.
 
I am right now yes. Ive never actually kept a horse where people live on site but I am concerned right now.
Id wondered about some sort of cameras but assume this needs electric?
 
I had similar happen when I kept my ponies somewhere next to a pond. Henry is normally the calmest, sweetest pony to lead (or ride!), but I literally couldn't hold him. After three attempts of trying to lead him across the field for tacking up (and letting go as he was rearing and galloping off), I realised there was something above our heads - a goose was divebombing him! No joke, this little s h i t proceeded to keep divebombing poor Henry!

I know it's a different scenario, but I just wanted to highlight that it isn't always people-mediated problems. The same geese nested there every year and as soon as the young hatched, they sat and paddled like butter wouldn't melt. I wonder if you've got rats, bats or foxes there? None I don't think would bother horses, but I can't think of anything else. It's not the type of place where you'd get lampers or poachers, is it?

Is there any possibility you could stay on site for a couple of nights with someone? I don't know how you'd rig up CCTV if there's no electric.
 
Id never thought of poachers....Maybe yes- The farm next to us hosts shoot days and there are a million pheasants and rabbits all the time in the area. I also know big horse hates guns, even with a silencer on they worry him.
Good thinking, I have considered staying there yes and I think certainly if this morning had shown any issues id have been there tonight!
I think im going to have a chat with people in both houses aswell as the farm and anyone else who uses the lane, Its a dead end and one of those places we all know everyones car!
 
Poor Henry! That's slightly amusing but I too hate geese and my horse is scared of all birds so I can see that would cause a major problem (much like the house with chickens down the road started a slight napping issue at first!)
