My Horse has the Dentist this afternoon and is a real fidget so i have some sedalin to try and keep him calm.
I am confused with the dosage amount though,
He is 420kg give or taken what dosage should i give him? He needs Mild to moderate

Thanks :-)

Your vet surely would have advised when prescribing it for you?
Phone vet if no instructions from them.

Each equine is different in absorption so any responses here might well be varying and could well be to the detriment of your horse.

What did your vet advise when you got the Sedalin? I would go with what they said.

My vet previously advised me that giving more didn't make them more sleepy but just lasted longer. I would give it at least 30 minutes before it was needed when the horse is calm. I tended to give two lines (twiddle the round 'stopper' on the plunger along to the second available line on the plunger) for my horses.

If your horse needs more sedation I find that Domosedan is more effective than Sedalin.

I’ve given a whole tube before now -(not that I’m advising this) didn’t touch the horse you need domoseden … much more effective and dose dependent

Your vet should have told you.

But instructions say:
Moderate sedation: 0.15 mg acepromazine/kg bodyweight.

The dose may be varied to administer between ½ and 1 ½ times the above recommendation according to the level of sedation required, i.e. for mild sedation, administer half the recommended dose and for deeper sedation, administer 1 ½ times the recommended dose

Each mL contains 35mg.

Personally, my vet told me to give my ~620kg mare up to 3 mLs when she was on box rest, but advised I started with 1mL to see how it went. I always gave it at least 20-30 minutes before needed.

I gave my 650kg horse 5ml the other week, it didn't touch the sides! but he had been eating hay before, and it says they need it on an empty stomach, so that was a waste of £50

Even with accurate weighing and vet advice it can be very hit and miss the first time. Our mini cob can have whole tube and still be ready for adventures while big TB only has to sniff the packet to go bye byes…

my mare who weighs 420kg had 3ml for turnout when she was on box rest, my vet said it’s more of an anti-anxiety than a sedative like domosedan gel.

nearly 500kg more took 1-2ml to be absolutely zonked in the same scenario! however, she’s more of an anxious pony whilst the other was purely excited.

As above it just takes the edge off my big one rather than knocks them out. I think I gave her 2ml but I had instructions from my vet on the box and followed that.

Sedalin is annoying. It can be a bit tricky to get the dose right. I have one horse that it does zero for, so I use domosedan instead. One horse barely has to look at it and you’d think he’d had IV sedation so a teeny blob is enough, another needs at least 2.5 x recommend dose.
