I have to use sedation for my mare for farrier visits. Last visit I was given a tube of Relaquine (sedalin) and told to give her the whole tube 20 mins before farrier. I've just popped into vets to pick up another tube ready for tomorrow but am a bit concerned about how much to give! This tube is 10 ml and directions state 2.5ml for 600kg bodyweight but this can be adjusted between 0.5 and 1.5 recommended dose. My mare weighs approx 680kg and if I give the highest recommended dose (x 1.5) I make it around 4.25 ml. If I give the whole tube I would be giving more than double. Have I worked this out correctly? Vets are now closed so can't ring them.....Help please!

I was told that giving them more doesn't sedate them more but the effect does last longer. I was also told to give it at least 30 minutes beforehand.

I too was told by my vet that giving more wont make it work better, that it's only relevant yo body weight.
However on the directions of sedalin it says different amounts for light-heavier sedation?
Anyway I've not heard of the type you mention OP but my horse needs sedation for the farrier and I absolutely swear by Dermosaden. It's a bit more expensive but amazing stuff. My horse is the same as if he'd had IV dope.
I find it best given even longer before hand than the recommended time and aim for 45 mins

The more you give just sedated them for longer, not deeper.

I find for my girl it takes over an hour for her to start to drop off.

Well I decided to give her half the tube, which was just ever so slightly over the recommended amount. Asked farrier to text me about an hour before he was would get to me. He texted and said he would be 45 mins so gave her the sedative......only for him to turn up 15 mins later! Got him to do my daughters horse first and by the time he'd finished my mare had been sedated for 30 mins. As she was only being trimmed we decided to do it in her stable and she was fab 😊 A few attempts to pull her feet away but on the whole a very good girl. Thanks for all the advice.
