Taylah is now standing at 14.3 and a half. The half is very important! Here in February at just 14.2hh:

And today at only half an inch off 15hh:

I am hoping that she will reach 15.1 when she's finished. I will be delighted with that. Though I know at 5'10" I'm going to look a bit leggy on her. :(

How are others doing with their undersized or oversized youngsters?

Wowzers she looks fab!!

My section D is coming up 14.3 hoping he will stretch to 15hh lol im 5'8" but he will be a chunky monkey so ill be able to disguise my lanky legs.

Gosh she does look grown up - and what lovely stables you have. I'm really glad for you that she's managed to put a bit of height on, here's looking forward to another inch and a half at least!

My lad who has grown more than expected is now not yet two and a half and is out with the big horses. Big ones being a 16.3 who's bum high and a high withered 17.2. My youngster doesn't look at all insignificant beside them - he is a little smaller but he's as substantial and of course he's still quite bum high :(

I've given up hoping mine will grow :( Hes about 14.1hh at the front and 14.3hh at the back. Hes been that way for a year and hes now rising 5yr old so I reckon thats it. I'm stuck with a croup high midget

section D's are lovely. I used to regularly ride a chunky 14.2 section D and she really did take up my leg. I didn't look bad at all on her, so I think you will look great on your boy.

Wow! He's going to be huge. Sounds like my girl's field mate who is only two. He makes her look tiny. Lets hope they both finish growing early!

She really is beautiful Wagtail xx

Thanks, GG xx

Oh I don't know. We had a cob arrive at my yard aged 5 and he measured 14 hh and was a touch bum high. I measured him age 12 and he was a level 14.2, so fingers crossed - many cobs mature very slowly.

She's grown so much, looks very smart. :)

Thank you. I am pleased I took so many photos. It makes you see the change in them that you don't notice every day.

My just 18mth old has seemed to zoom up this summer, shes gone from a 5'3/5'6 rug in may to a whopping 6' rug already and is already over 15hh at the withers and is bum high, I can't actually see over her bum anymore. Shes had no food other than grass over summer. She doesn't even resemble a yearling to look at. My farrier laughed and said did I want a 17hh er as that's he thinks she will make. Not funny for a 5' person whose currently riding a 13.2hh!!

With that extra half inch now I'm sure she'll make 15.1 ;) Maybe even 15.1 1/4 :D
She is a very pretty girl.

Thank you!

My two 3 year olds are both 16hh. One will make 16.3hh, the other will likely make 16.1hh.

Your girl looks like she's turning out to be quite lovely.

Thanks, SF. Your 3 year olds are probably the size I should have bought, lol. But barring disasters, Taylah's for keeps so I'll just have to make sure I don't eat too many pies.

my mare did not level out till the start of her 7th year

she is very pretty and may surprise you height wise

Thank you. I hope you're right.

Ah, she has grown into herself so well, and such lovely dapples! You must be very proud. :) Cannot wait to see how my little one turns out one day...

Thank you. Yes, I love her to bits. What sort is your little one? It's lovely watching them grow up.

mine is growing too!! yeah. Its taken her all year to decide to though.

Ah, I was wondering how you were getting on. Glad to hear she is finally growing!

You are the opposite to me then. I sometimes wish I was 5' so I could ride ponies. Sounds like you will probably get your 17 hander!

She looks absolutely lovely and I hope she grows that bit extra for you :)

Meanwhile, my 2yr old is a slightly terrifying 16hh...

Oh wow. He's going to be a big boy (or girl) then. The two year old here is also huge. He seems to have grown every time I handle him. I wish I could steal a hand from him for my girl then they would both be a nice 16 hands or so.

I am planning to get a saddle fitted to her next Spring/Summer. And wondering what colour tack. I'm edging towards black, but not absolutely sure. She's a strange colour like a cross between a dark dapple grey and a dark brown.

She's lovely! Mine has grown like a weed in the last 10-12months he was 13hh a year ago and last night i measured him at 15hh!! He's yr old ID I'm hoping for 16.1

He's only a yearling and already 15hh? Lol, he's going to be another 17 hander by the sounds of it.

You're more than welcome to take a hand or so off my 17.3hh boy. :tongue3:

I gave up measuring him after he hit 17.2 and then went bum high again. He's 8 now and finally levelled out. Thank God because I already need a step ladder to get on him. :redface3:

She's a pretty girl. Hopefully she'll make over 15hh.

Blimey, that's big. Even I feel small on a 17.2. I had a lovely 17.2 ID once. I hated riding him in the school as he was so hard to keep together, but absolutely loved hacking him. It was like riding on a magic carpet. So smooth and comfortable.

One that I bred specifically for me was 14.3 1/2 at the end of may (at his 2nd birthday) and sadly looks like he will not make the 16.1 that I really wanted so it looks like I will be riding with my legs below his belly :( at least he is what I wanted temperament and conformation wise so it could be worse :)

I wouldn't give up on him yet. I bet he makes a good few more inches. They say add a hand to a two year old. But if not, then good things come in small packages.

I think there's growing to be done still! Is she part exmoor?
I think a lot of horses are only really mature at about 6, plus you can get a lot of barrel growth after the height has finished.

Her dam is full TB (15.3 hh) and sire is German WB (16.1). She is a very dark buckskin. I can see why you ask about the Exmoor. I have also had people ask me if she's a Connemara. She certainly looks more pony than the horse she actually is. :D

Wow she has really grown and looks lovely.

When I last measured Moses he was 13.2, however I think he is a bit bigger now, he is REALLY bum high, I am hoping he does not get much bigger. He already takes up your legs so if he gets bigger my feet are bot going to clear the saddle!
