The farmer who cuts our hay has suggested that, next year, we plough and reseed the field. (It's quite uneven and he complains every year about how difficult it is to cut!)
I'm hoping to take it as an opportunity to choose a perfect mix of grass for our horses and wondered if anyone has any advice.
All the horses are natives, the old pony has Cushings and one of the horses is prone to gastric ulcers so, ideally, I'd like something other than the high-sugar ryegrass that is probably there at the minute. (Land was previously used for cattle). I wondered about the possibility of mixing in some lucerne but seem to remember reading somewhere once that it grows / matures at a different rate to grass so can't be cut at the same time. Not sure how correct this is. I'd also like some herbs etc in with it.
Any ideas really welcome!
Thanks in advance!
