Seeing the Vet issues

Hi, can anyone advise... my dog (Patterdale cross Border Terrier) 4 year old bitch, is terrified of the vet! W
Whenever she has to go in for her annual jabs (touch wood...she only ever goes for her check ups) she is fine in the reception but as soon as we enter the vets office the vet cant get near her, she wiggles frantically never bites but growls at the vet and it obviously very scared backing into corners and crying etc... to the point that he cant even get the stethoscope on her so i have to hold the listening end to her whilst she is pinned to my body and both the vet and i end up sitting on the floor with her! and dont even get me started on when he has to inject her! i nearly got it in the face!!

Is there anything i can do? she used to be fine up until she went in to be spade! after that this has been her reaction! is it worth me trying a different vet? is it the memory?

please help...

I can really sypathise, we see this a lot in practice. There are a few things you could try.
You could ask your vet to try and give the injection in a different room where there is more space, some consulting rooms are tiny and the dogs can feel intimidated as the vet is "on top of them" as soon as they walk in, being in a larger space can help.
You could also maybe try an adaptil collar, its impregnated with an appeasing pheromone and can help some dogs, although it can work well on some it has no effect at all on others.
Failing all that, maybe your vet could prescribe something to relax her before you arrive at the surgery, normally taken about an hour or so before, the sort of thing you would give around firework time, ACP or Diazepam.
PLEASE check with your vet, as may not be compatable with the vaccine.

My vets are happy to inject dogs in the car park, or even in their owners car if they are like this. Perhaps suggest it to your vet, or alternatively do you have horses, if it is the same vet would he vaccinate whilst on a yard visit?
 
Thanks I will talk to my vet, the reception keep saying to just bring her in weekly and sit in the reception so she gets used to the place! but 1. who has time to do this and 2. its not the reception she has the problem with lol

Thanks guys I am willing to try another to help her! she gets in such a state! and it worries me if theres something seriously wrong with her one day what would happen and i'd like to start taking her on holiday to my parents place in france but they have to see a vet 24 hrs before returning so dont know how she'd cope!
 
Sometimes we find they are worse with their owners. Maybe get the vet to take her out the back and try with the help of a nurse. U'd be suprised how many play up with their mummies and daddies x
