Hello there, I have just registered as a member (although I have been visiting the forum for some time).

Just wondered if anyone knew of any good liveries on the Ashdown Forest with direct access to the forest.

Richard Wilkinson at Home Farm in Crowborough? Or Pippingford Park?

Try looking in Friday-Ad or *******.

thanks for your reply. i need an indoor school to (forgot to mention that). i have not heard of Richard. Pippingford does not have an indoor school; Faircote looks MASSIVE and not what i want ideally. Anywhere else?

I know Paddock farm has an indoor school as I used to have mine there. Direct access to the forest, grazing is a little poor though! I don't know if she's got any space at the moment, her names Lisa and the yard is in fairwarp :) i don't know her number any more, but google the above farm and just pop in and ask, she'll be fine.

Richard only has an outdoor school.

Isn't Faircote several yards on one site?

Paddock Farm at Fairwarp has an indoor school and direct access to the Forest.

What was Ashdown Forest Riding Centre has one too but not certain if they are just a private yard now.

What about the new yard at Chelwood Equestrian? I think they have just about everything!

There is only one vacancy at Faircote at the moment, at www.equuslivery.co.uk which is a ten-box yard. My boy is the startled-looking one on the right in the second row of photographs on the gallery page! The indoor school is smaller than 20x40m though, in case that is a dealbreaker for you. Paddock Farm has a 20x40m indoor school but I understand that the surface is not great at the moment.

I used to be at Faircote a few years ago - yes, it is a few yards on one site. I was in Lower Barn Stables, and loved it.
The facilities, which are shared, are fantastic - 3 schools, 1 inside, and one absolutley huge, gallops, horsewalker, and direct access onto ashdown.
The care on my yard was second to none, and all the horses on the whole site looked in good condition and happy.
If my lad was still in work, I'd still be there, but it's expensive for a field ornament!

I did like the look of Lower Barn however I was unsure what the facilities were like with so many people sharing on the yard. Do you ever get a chance to use them?

Absolutely! The indoor school can get a bit crowded on a rainy day, but the smaller of the outdoor arena's is usually empty during the week (obviously weekends and evenings are busier), the huge outdoor arena (100m x 50m I think), always has space as it's so big.
I didn't use the gallops that much, but they were nearly always empty, and the lunge pen was always available (I possibly had to wait once!)

I used to go up weekday mornings, and early at weekends, and it never seemed busy or crowded. Obviously if there was a comp on locally, it could get a bit busy, but there's so much space, that you can just get on with your own thing.

And if it is busy, the hacking is amazing.

misterjay is right, the only facility that gets busy is the indoor arena on a rainy weekend day or during snow. There are around 65 horses on the property in total, but some of those are barely ridden or on rehab and some (like me) are happy hackers, so rarely use the schools anyway. There is a small possibility you might have to share the indoor or 20x40m outdoor school occasionally, but there is always plenty of space in the 50x100m outdoor school and that has the best surface too.
The place can hardly be considered overcrowded - some people don't seem to ride their horses at all! I ride my veteran four times per week and can rarely find anyone to hack out with . . .
Your options for yards with direct access to the Forest and an indoor school are limited to Faircote or Paddock Farm (Lisa Basham), so visit both and see which you prefer?

£170 = £730 per month!

I'm just a happy hacker - not a pro that needs to spend that much. I have looked at your website, it looks superb.
