To all you horse girls/guys out there with the perfect other half...

How did you find him/her?

So many times I have had a relationship where the other half ends up jealous of my neddies, or hates the fact that I am rolling out of bed at 5am and not returning in the evening till 8pm or the fact that when I get in yes I do have straw in my hair, mud on my boots and probably stink of ****.

Out of all the comments he has made the best was "why do you need to give it hay it costs money"... and "can't you just have a night off tonight I am sure it will be fine"...
Needless to say i'm on my own again :-(

So my question to you is what makes you other half so understanding? (and do they have a brother ;-) only joking) and where did you find that special someone?

Adios x

Found him in a pea field (he was an agronomist!).

Told him horse comes first, take it or leave it. Bless him, he decided to take it and 14 years on he's still putting up with us.

mine was a completely non horsey townie who loved westerns as a child and that was got his interest, now he hunts I stay at home in the house in country play with horses ( dressage hunting eventing carriage driving) he is away all week taveling the world to pay for the horses dogs groom and house no this is not a dream it really did happen to me how lucky am I.

I live in non horsey area so it is quite difficult to meet someone can put up with horsey way or who find it quite odd that urban people have horses
Just have to keep lookin though *THIS IS NOT AN ADVETISEMENT*( :D )

My ex was perfect to start with, he encourged me to get my boy I own at the moment, he helped out with money for him when not needed and used to come to the yard with me every day and do little jobs to help out and even rode him on occassions! I was happy until actual relationship problems got in the way. And then the horse was suddenly the problem, he got annoyed when Id be down there for hours, he couldn't understand how the horse made me happy and not him.

End of, he wanted me to get rid of the horse (the I have sole responsiblity and pay for!) and kept making points like "we'd have more money, the horse is causing the aruguements, why do you always have to be down there when we can't spend time together?" End of the story I am now going through a bad relationship breakdown with what I thought was the perfect OH but my horse is the only one who matters really.

Morale of the story: my boy is always there for me! Men not so much! :P

Ps: We're still living together and he's just informed me he's taking me to tack shop to buy food and other things I have wanted (but not needed). Maybe there's hope or maybe he's realised I only have room for one lad in my heart and he might need to try to get in there a bit more!!

With mine before I got all horsed up but he understands I need a horse in my life and is reasonable.
When I lost my nerve and gave up he helped me find a yard to sell Mr Naughty on, Never influenced me to sell my trailer and my 4 x 4 and 12 months later as we drove past the vets commented I suppose it wont be long before you are calling on them to vet your next horse. I was gobsmacked even I didnt know I had decided to own again.

Havent got one yet but watch this space.

My OH was brought up on a farm, so he's used to the time issues/smells/mess etc! :D

We met 20 years ago in the local pub, but didnt get together for another 5 years, when he finally picked up the courage to ask me out! He can also ride, so sometimes rides my horses when i cant- very useful when pregnant (me, not him! :D)

Ironically, he now works in marketing- nothing at all to do with farms/geegees but he understands (and his wage allows me not to work, and helped us build our stables etc!). I'm very lucky.

Excellent point.

My husband is NOT HORSEY in any way, shape or form. Hes an american and Im british and we do NOT think alike. He used to help me up the field now and then but now is jelious of my horse and pony and in arguments throws them in my face.I just tell him to get stuffed and *** off and walk away.Been married 20 years and hubby got a bank loan to buy me my horse, ive had my horse for past 6 years and horse comes before him and hubby resents my horse. But if my hubby showed me more love/attention!!!!!!!!!
My hubby knows he will not make me get rid of my animals. Doesnt like my rules too bad lol lol
but everyone argues dont they?

Nyaaawww.. you soppy gits :D:D

I tried twice with non-horsey menfolk and it just never quite goes down well that animals are more important... disaster.

Fortunately, after all that, met a chap at work whose Mum n sis were into horses. At first he was like "oh no, not horses!"... three years later, he asked me to marry him... just as I bought a new horse :D:D:D:D whoooooops!!!

At least he knows to ask if I need anything if he ever drives past Mole Valley :D:D

p.s. he does have a brother.................. 23... too young???

Mine is fully trained :D he's my farrier's apprentice (:, he is really fond of my girl and since being with me he's started thinking about getting a horse of his own (used to ride to quite a good level). He's brilliant and understands both mine and my horses needs, he's also pretty good at giving me riding tips/helpful criticism from the ground - usually works a treat! :D. However i would say i got lucky, my ex was a county rugby player and or though he was never jelous of my horses, he was a pain in the @ss whenever he came down to the yard (would just lurk around, get in the way and moan..

I am a very lucky girl now :D :p

Met mine at Ag college, but he was more of a tractor driver than stockman, horses are still an enigma to him but he can now at least do cows & pigs. Celebrated our 25th W.A 2 weeks ago so I haven't put him off yet.

I met my OH before I got Benson! I have always been interested in horses, always wanted my own, we had been married for about 8 years when we loaned Benson together, and shared him between us. Now, we are both involved with Donovan, he shows him, and he is part of our family.

Mine is thoroughly non horsey, never had animals in his life apart from two dogs quite recently. But he's all keen on being environmentally friendly and self sufficient so wants a small holding in the future, and he just accepts that I'm horsey and that I actually need them to stay sane! He's even ridden a few times! (Albeit with my shoddy instructions!) In the future I'm hoping he gets a well paying job, which he should hopefully as he's doing his PhD atm, which can afford for me to not work and just look after the animals all day! And he'd be happy with this, he gets the best of both worlds then, doing a job he loves and coming home to something he's passionate about (the small holding, and me I suppose!).

I'm on my own again too and my last girlfriend didn't like my saddlery or leatherwork at all or when I had been with horses fitting saddles and stank like one!
Oz :)

Yoo hoooooooooo.... OP................ ^^ ;););)

Wha....???? Was she mad? Was she into horses? I can't believe what I am reading!!!!

Stop it you little devil!
I'm too old now, just have my 3 dogs and my workshop, that's enough!
Oz :)
PS yes she had a horse for her daughter and I was the one making, repairing and buying things for it, she loved my wallet rather than me

Sorry to hear that Oz... three smashing dogs and workshop sounds idyllic to be fair :)

Met my husband on Partners for Farmers website, had just come out of a disastrous relationship with a previous bloke I'd met on there, who turned out to lead a double life.

Hubby turned out to be my soul mate and came from a long line of horsey relations (grandpa was MSH of the Tiverton Staghounds) and his Dad was a dairy farmer, so he was very much used to living in the country. I came with two horses and three lurchers and after a fe months of living together, he got himself a TB.

He never complains about me spending time with my horses, in fact we spend time together with our horses, and we've now just moved to a house in Cornwall with enough acreage for a number of horses, feel very lucky!

My other half resents my boys to a degree, tries to get funny about them all the time but I tell him if he doesn't like , there's the door. He will go before my boys do, they keep me sane (even if I'm a little skint all the time)

You need to get yourself down to the beach and pick up a surfer!!!! Better still, gallop past him on your magnificent horse, then chat him up while he's getting changed out of his wetsuit (gives you chance to check out his credentials too....)
Surfers ALWAYS struggle to meet women because MOST women begrudge them the time they spend in the sea, because when surf's up they have to go regardless of whether or not they have a date. Surfing comes first! They all stink of rubber and they drive smelly grubby vans and have no money...

Surfers are PERFECT for horsey women!!! You can spend hours upon hours riding while they hang out at the beach and surf, they don't care that you are grubby and smelly because they are too. You can clean your tack in the living room as long as they are allowed to dry their wetsuits in the bathroom. You can keep as much horsey stuff as you like in the garage because it's now a surfboard/wetsuit store room. You can borrow the van to go to the feed store. They love the fact you are fit, strong and look a 'bit weathered' like they do. They spend ££££ on new wetsuits, custom boards, fixing vans and diesel to get to surf spots, so have NO say whatsoever in what you spend on horse.

I have been with my surfer husband for 9 years and it's a match made in heaven. We even got to move to somewhere nice so he could surf and I could keep horse in the countryside. He DID talk about me selling horse when baby is born... His surfer mates said, 'Whoa no way, she sells her horse and you will have to sell all your boards. Fair's fair." I hugged them all!!!!!!

Get yourself down to the beach!!! Winter's best by the way, better surf.

Tallyho: no 23 is not to young lol ;-)

Wouldn't it be good to set up a H&H dating site, brill idea ridefast!!

Cremedemonthe sounds like you have a lovely setting there.

So being the bold person I am, any lovely single men out there that doesn't mind a poo smelling, straw wearing woman, where the neddy comes firsts and you find long boots at the front door, rugs in the washing machine and carrots going missing from the fridge lol ;-)
