I have always had a go at pretty much anything, jumping wise, as long as I thought it was within my horse's capabilities. I never gave much thought to coming off, or what might happen if it all went wrong. I would always jump at the opportunity to have a go at a particularly nasty fence or combination etc...

Today I was out on a hunt ride (thanks to F+M) and was riding a horse for my boss, who is a very bold 5 yr old, that I took XC schooling last Thursday. Had a lovely time, but we came to a nice big ditch (lots of those in Suffolk

) and you could either jump it or go round it. Without even thinking about it I went round it. My boss jumped it on her horse and when she saw me at the other side asked if I had taken the youngster over it, I said no, I went round it. She couldn't believe it! And looking back neither can I.

It is just so unlike me to turn down the chance to jump something like this, I am worried I am becoming cautious and lacking that drive after breaking my leg

What if I start preferring to go and do the dreaded stressage than jump round an open HT

Silly thoughts, but worrying me all the same

You're bound to feel more cautious after breaking your leg, its only natural. Dont put too much pressure on yourself to be brave too soon. If you are not ready thats when accidents happen. Its far better to build your self confidence slowly, that way it will remain strong for far longer..
Im sure you will get the old feel back again, it may just take time.

Honestly?

Don't worry yourself over it.

The more you start to nick pick about it, the more you'll question everything you do. Just smile, say you had a good day and that so what if you didn't jump that ditch...You can do it another time.

You'll be fine. You will be back bounding around soon. In the mean time don't fret.

Lol!! Yeah I suddenly started doing that, it happens when you suddenly realise you cant do everything all the time, normally brought on by something happening like a fall doing something you would never have thought about previously/an awareness created by riding something that may not be capable/willing...it happen sto us all!!
