Does anyone have a stairgate they no longer use. My mums Akita cross GSD gets out of windows and doors if they're open. Mum lives in a studio apartment on the ground floor. She can't let the dog out as she has no recall.

I suggested rehoming or retraining with adequate enrichment. I'm waiting to be slaughtered for suggesting someones furbaby could be dangerous and inappropriately housed. And that a stairgate is unlikely to contain such a dog.
 
Totally agree that a stair gate won’t cut it for an Akita cross GSD, especially one that's already proven to be an escape artist. Those breeds are strong, smart, and very determined, if they want out, a stair gate isn’t going to stand in their way.

It sounds like the dog’s current setup isn’t really meeting its needs, especially in a studio flat with no secure outdoor access. Rehoming or working with a proper behaviorist might be tough suggestions to hear, but they’re not unreasonable given the circumstances. Safety for the dog and others has to come first.

Well judging by all the sympathetic replies for the "furbaby " none of that's going to happen.😒 poor dog stupid stupid owner. Apparently it is her" mental health support dog". Not sure who's supporting the dogs mental health though.
