Hi,

I am just looking at insurance for my new horse and SEIB have come back the cheapest. Just wondering what people's thought on them are good or bad?

Many thanks

They won’t insure my horse for vets fees because I’m in the military. Which is frankly ludicrous as I’m not sure how my job affects my horse’s likelihood of being sick or injured. So I can’t comment. NFU are the same. It’s frankly discriminatory.

Yes, I do have a bee in my bonnet ?

I have heard good things though, should they choose not to discriminate against you for bizarre reasons

Brilliant *****

had a claim for my gelding 2000 for the Newmarket bill - paid without hassle

2020 put a claim in for Navicular - been paying as we send the bills in
October 2020 put a claim in for check ligament - paid in full and horse signed of from this so only Navicular one on going
Have my car with SEIB and my horsebox

That's crazy !!

I was with them for a year and had a claim- no problems with payment.
On renewal the price went up a fair bit so I went elsewhere.

Just note with them (assuming this applies to all of their policies) that you will need to get their authorisation for things like MRI or CT scan , whereas other insurers i know don't need that extra step if they accept the claim.

That's mad, do they think you're going to take your horses into battle or something.

I was with them for a few years and made some claims no problems at all. Cant remember why i switched and these days do accident only as after a few claims have too much that could be excluded.

Excellent and pay up for claims - although less easily than they used to. After 20 years I have just left them as their exclusions became ludicrous without any clinical explanation.

I was with them last year as they offered me an injury only policy which the previous provider wouldn’t do as the horse wasn’t old enough for their veteran injury only policy.
I claimed approx £600 for vet fees and transport costs after she fell out of her stable and banged her leg good and proper.
It was hit and miss as to whether they’d cover it as the cover was for external injuries only and she only had a few superficial scrapes but they paid the full lot quickly and easily so I was suitably impressed.
Staff were always friendly and helpful and were compassionate when I rang to cancel the policy when the horse was later pts.
Similarly had horsebox insurance with them and found them helpful with that, though I thankfully never had to claim on that!

SEIB aren't insurance providers. They are brokers. So your insurance isn't with them, and it's not them who will pay out.
So the quality of insurance you get will depend on who they place your policy with.

It was some years ago, but after the appalling way they treated a relative after a horse box accident, they are on my “not with a long barge pole” list.
