Hi all,

I was just wondering if any of you have had good (or bad) experiences with SEIB horse insurance?? I am looking to insure my ISH for low level BE and at the moment the seem the most reasonable.

I know they cover the BHS gold member for public liability, but I wanted consumer reviews really!

On a good note my 8yo ISH is progessing slowly but surely, shame about the freezing weather holding everything up!

I have been using SEIB now for over 20 years and unfortunately have had to make a fair few claims over that time with various horses. I have always found them to be friendly and helpful, and they pay out direct to your vet.:)
Also have the lorry insured with them and they have always been the most reasonable for my needs.

Good experiences with them.. had a £5k claim with my boy & £3K with my mums mare - both on same policy.. all paid out & I hadn't owned the gelding more than 4-5 mnths. No questions asked & they didnt even put the renewal premium up!!

That sounds promising, I was looking at the 17.5% excess option. Has anyone done this?? #
I know it will work out at £800+ pounds for a £5000 claim, but the premium is a quarter of the price of the £250 excess one. And around a £900 claim will only amount to around £135 excess (minimum payable though).

Thanks guys! :)

My tack was covered with them. It was stolen. They asked me to produce receipts for the tack before they would pay out. I did not have receipts as the numnah, leathers, irons, bit etc were bought at different times. They were EXTREMELY unpleasant about it. In the end I claimed on my house insurance and DirectLine paid me without any qualms. DirectLine went to SEIB and got some money back from them and I did not have to get involved. My tack is now excluded from horses insurance and it lives in my Dining Room.

Three claims in the last 18 months and no problems at all. Also, they are very nice to deal with on the telephone which is an added bonus. :)

Odd - I claimed from them for a tack theft last year and didn't have any receipts and they paid up very promptly. I told them where I'd bought things and for the saddles they called the shop who gave them the replacement costs and they sent out a cheque.

Also found them very easy to deal with on vet fee claims

I had a problem claiming for saddles and tack. They wanted receipts for everything, which I didn't have. Fortunately my lovely local tack shop wrote out receipts for me and SEIB then paid up, took 6 weeks to get my money.

Last year I took a loan horse from the Blue cross - a 15 y.o. tb, not worth much, and they refused to insure it without a full 5* vetting! I only wanted 3rd party cover and vets fees. I already had my other 2 horses and trailer insured with them for about 15 years and never made a claim.

I think most insurers insuring a 15 yo horse for the first time would insist on a vetting for vet fee cover. Infact many insurers refuse full stop to cover vet fees with horses over a certain age

I contacted them recently for my loan horse and again they wanted a 5 stage vetting due to his age. I can understand them being more cautious with a veteran but he isn't a veteran!

I lost a dressage horse a few years back over in Germany who was insured by them, they knew he was in Germany yet they tried to use this as an excuse not to pay out.
I am with KBIS now and find them cheaper and much better to deal with.

I wanted to use them, but they put unnecessary exclusions on the policy (judged unnecessary by my vet, and the six other insurance companies I tried), then refused to accept my vet's statement stating they were wrong, and refused to try another underwriter. Weren't pleasant to deal with either.
