I'm debating on going and taking the big ginger one but I'm not sure which day as I'm undecided if I want to do the jumping or try a bit of showing/WH with, just for a bit of fun, useually go every year for a wander and used to take my other and compete but not been with any horses for good few years, only thing is I don't have any transport anymore but I could actually ride down, but its not ideal if your showing as your kinda stuck holding the horse all day and if its wet (which it usually is!) then its a bit of a drag! but I take him for the jumping then its not so bad you can turn up do your thing and ride home ...providing your still in one peice!

I'd like to take advantage of being able to go with something though so I'll have to decide, might just see what the weather forecasts and enter on the day.

Its next month, if you take a look at Port Royal's website it will give you details of the days and what classes are on on which day or if you google it you can have a look at the main SGF website, I won't say the date as I don't want to get my wrists slapped for advertising but feel free to PM if you want any more info.

Certainly a good place for us Yorkshire lot to meet up.

Think I'm just entering on the day too, I have a very novicey cousin (as in not yet mastered rising trot

) who wants to have a go at showing already...so taking my most well behaved pony and we are going to join all the kids in bonny pony

Last year I had a stall there selling pet treats.
However, this year I won't be bothering for lots of reasons. Firstly, they cashed my cheque to pay the stall rent then rang me demanding the money, claiming I hadn't paid. Then when we arrived we were told they hadn't heard of us, so there wasn't space for us. Funnily, they rang me while I was arguing about the lack of space and again asked me to pay ... which rather shot the 'never heard of you' argument in the foot!
Finally, this year's stall rent is so stupidly high I refuse to pay. I'm not alone, several regular show stalls won't be there this year as they also think it's too much money. Four days worth of SGF is about six WEEKS worth of rent in my shop!

I do actually think the public entry fee is too high...a lot of the county shows are less and have much more going on imo...however as a competitor I have never had any cause to complain about the way the guys from Port Royal run the horsey side of it, they always do a good job.

Oooh
I never know when the yorkshire shows are on, so thanks for mentioning it
If I don't forget again, I'll be there for a wander round
Can't compete as I wouldn't be able to get there
Be sure to mention what day you decide to go Kenzo

Yes I've heard its expensive to have a stall there, probably explains why there seems to be less there, well less variety, always seems to be the same sort of stalls, shooting/outdoor stuff (yes I know its a game fair) but its nice for the smaller and more varied stalls to be there too so there is a nice choice of things to look round at, only the big fish can afford to go and if its bad weekend then I suppose its not worth it as you don't take as much.
I know alot of people don't go anymore unless there competing because it seems to be the same old thing every year but some how we end up going

Yes they do a great job and cater for everyone, there is something for everyone to have a go at.

Agree about the entry fee, not so bad if your a pensioner or a minor but if your a family with a good few adults as well, its very costly!

If you have to pay to get in don't bother it is definitely NOT worth a tenner to get in. A fiver would be more realistic and even then not an awful lot to see.
