Hi all , right i'm starting to have a good think about spraying my pony paddock , i've got another paddock resting to which i can move them whilst i spray using quad and 6ft boom sprayer , so what i need is a recommendation for is a really good selective weedkiller that will do rag , dock and we also have a little buttercup which i know is hard as hell to get rid of.
Obviously i'm a bit ahead of my self in that the ground will be harrowed and rolled first and i'm not planning on doing anything until the weather warms up and spring arrives - just trying to make plans, thanks if you can bring me some pearls of wisdom , PI.

Thanks GC are these products widely available i.e can i buy them from my local ag merchants? I can't say i've ever heard of either as products usually have a more ' laymans terms' name i.e graze-on.
I mainly seem to have a problem with rag rosettes coming up , the odd docks and a few of the damper areas have buttercup , but i really want to break the cycle of rag. I know it's a risk but i understand that rag is biennial so i do wonder if i let them grow but cut off the heads as they form to stop them self seeding - could i eventually get rid?:confused:
 
Trust me these will be more cost effective and yes any at merchant should know exactly what they are. Cutting heads off is going to be an extremely slow way of getting rid of ragwort!
 
I too am interested in what to spray for buttercups that you can buy over the counter without needing a sprayers licence for. Also what to use for bracken??? It grows in some of the hedges and basically its killing the hedge by blocking out the light so I need to do something about it and also I am sick of constantly putting up electric fencing so that the horses cant get to it!
 
For broadleaf weeds we use Agritox, last year we got the cheaper equivalent, we buy it from our agricultural suppliers (but you do need a holding number to get it I believe). Bracken is another matter, the spray for that is Asulox, which is being banned by the EU, but was only available previously if you had a licence. Pulling it out or cutting it back are your only real options without using a braod based weed killer, I think.
 
Well I wouldn't really advise anyone to handle sprays that isn't fully qualified but yes same chemicals would tackle buttercups. Bracken is different a woody weed that would take more killing, will look it up in office tomorrow.

Thank you! I do pull it out periodically assuming that will weaken it??? but then leave it a couple of weeks and before you know it its got out of hand!
