Also posted in NL as not sure where is best :)

I am currently looking in to the option of hiring out my horsebox for the (many) weekends and days when it is not in use to make it pay its way a little more ;) I know that in many cases this can be a lot of hassle and time-consuming etc, but between OH and I we could probably put in enough time and effort to make it worthwhile. We are looking into insurance options at the moment and have come across a fair few companies that will only offer good policies if you have a fleet of vehicles, rather than just the one. Do any of you have any experience of hiring on a small scale and any recommendations of companies or brokers that are particularly good and likely to cover just the one vehicle? We are weighing up the benefits of annual policies vs Pay as you Go systems, alongside the On Hire/Off Hire insurance policies required so any advice or experiences would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

If you go down this route you will also need an operators licence and insist on drivers using the tacho and all the other shite that goes with commercial use of a LGV! Just make sure this is what you want with the extra cost involved.
Good luck if you do its a minefield getting insurance will be the least of your issues!Been there tried it not worth the disruption in your life!

Thanks for the replies. Yes exactly Almorton, it is a 3.5T box so O'Licences and tachos etc would not come in to it at this stage. If we were to get a larger box in the future, I have my CPC and currently run a logistics firm so holding operators licences and all that malarkey is not new to me ;)
