I work part time with horses self employed and have all the insurance in the world to protect the public, the owners, and their horses but have recently reviewed my insurance document and it doesn't cover me if I get hurt!
Working with other peoples horses can be very risky at times and I want to make sure that if (hopefully not!) I ever did get hurt and couldn't work for a while that I would get some form of compensation.
As far as I'm aware you cannot calim off the owners general insurance (if they have any) if you are providing a service that they are paying for?
Can anyone recommend a company that covers the person working with the horse against unjury not just against public liability and legal cover like mine?

I had quotes for everything (public liability, personal injury and care, custody and control) from each of those two for about £400 I think, and that was without the BHSAI which seems to bring the premium down.

I would think NFU do they cover us and our employees

I am absolutely sure that NFU do a riders policy which covers the rider as well as public liability - its definitely worth giving them a ring.

Hi there, I was in a situation a couple of years ago where my horse kicked my yard owner in the head when she was clipping her. I phoned my insurance company as she was in hospital for 2 weeks, surgery to re-build her eye socket etc and I wanted to see what help I could get her, and they said that as she was clipping for payment she was not insured under my policy, she should have her own personal injury one. If she was doing it as a friend, I could have claimed for her.

May also be worth looking at what you can get via joining the British Grooms Association - not sure if that is just for employed or self employed people as well.
