I took my big lump of a dog for a walk today, and apart from a short stretch of road which runs adjacent to a field with sheep and lambs in, he was off lead.

Completely.
And not even wearing his pinch collar.

He walked to heel. I left him in a sit stay. I left him in a down stay. He came to call.
We went back to the house and he jumped from a 'down' with me at a distance giving hand signals.

While I know he is in a sterile environment at home, anyone who has read my tearing-my-hair out posts over the past year or so will know what this means to me.

Just to say, I feckin' love my dog. Thanks to all who have given me advice on here and sorry for wittering on. For anyone who thinks their dog will never improve, we are proof, it can be done!

Go Hacking Hack... one of your posts about an 'interesting walk' (I think you ended up in a ditch) that made me cry with laughter is what got me to sign up to this forum, so glad to hear things are going so well!

Thanks, and LMAO about 'that' post about 'that' walk - I was thinking about it the other day when we passed the spot where I landed flat on my back - in his defence, that was his stupid sister's fault! Took me days to get the mud out of my hair......

She is doing super too, actually, expect a thread in a few weeks time!
 
Yay, so pleased for you. That is a huge leap forward isn't it! You know I often think that when a dog is a real challenge you form a greater bond with them. Much as I love Buffy who has been an incredibly easy dog, she hasn't got the spark that Evil Evie has

it is so nice to prove people (including myself) wrong.

I feel kinda bad, Nanci never put a paw wrong in ten years, she was a credit to her breed, but this lad (apart from D), is my best dog.

Ps I have no doubt that after this post, tomorrow he will utterly disgrace himself and me in some way.....
