On Thursday I had Rosie Jones (IH/Kelly Marks/Monty Roberts demo rider) out to help me with Archie (virtually unhandled, newly gelded 5 year old Ardennes cross). The difference she made in an hour was amazing, we worked mainly on picking his feet up as that is what I've been really struggling with.

On Friday I had a go on my own and he was really good, even when I tried the long lines over his back getting him to turn bit and got my lines muddled he just stood there and let me get everything sorted.

Saturday he was abit of a git, but managed to get a couple of good feet pick ups so left it at that.

When I had a think about it I wondered if he is hungry as he's on his starvation patch and I give him his happy hoof afterwards so wondered if he is not concentrating as wanting his feed?

Tonight gave him a small scoop with the idea of working him afterwards, then decided not to as feeling a bit c**p, back hurting and also very windy. Went to give him a cuddle instead and then thought I would just try picking a foot up and see what happened and bless him did three very grown up pick ups on both front feet and let me pull them forward for the first time!!! Had to have extra cuddles after that!!

Sorry, pointless post really, just very pleased with him.

Hot choc/wine/jelly tots or choc ice cream if you've got this far!

I'll have a jelly tot thankies...

Big well done, the sense of achievement you feel with these first steps is amazing... keep going and he'll be a super star in no time... well done :-)
