Selle Francais X Zandersheide?

Hey! What would you call this horse, breedwise, his sire being Selle Francais and his dam being Zandersheide. In the studbook, he is down as just BES- Breeders' Elite Studbook.
Would I be right in saying a type of European sportshorse/warmblood?

The Selle Français isn't considered to be a breed, here in France; rather, it is a type.

Horses of Thoroughbred, Arabian, Anglo-Arabian and French Trotter bloodlines, can, if they confirm to the type, be used for breeding and the offspring registered as Selle Français.

SF is defined as a breed on WBFSH which is all that counts. Along with AA. Tbh they are really the only french stud books you see competing.

But to answer your question it’s just a British bred sporthorse with continental lines.

All warmbloods are type rather than breed, apart from Trakheners (perhaps there are other smaller breeds too eg Eastern Europe), afaik. Then it's about which stud book they are registered in.

You are correct, the Trakehner stud book is the only closed registry of all warmblood types.

I have a TB x Zangersheide who has a Hungarian Warmblood passport (place of birth) and overstamped for Zangersheide (not by me)

Perhaps the Dam dictates the breed (sort of?). I have a horse who's Dam is ISH and Sire is Zangersheide. Her passport puts her as an ISH but that could also to her being 'a type'

It’s generally down to the country of birth and the studbooks available. So yes, the location of the dam is often influential.
But for Sporthorses this doesn’t mean breed (for the most part), it means studbook.
